Living by Your Own Ideas

As children grow up, they eventually try to move away from their parents.

Whether or not this separation period goes well often depends on how you have spent your time together until then.

Fortunately, I was aware that my children would eventually leave, so I was able to build that kind of relationship with them.

However, there are families in the world where things do not go so well.

✅ Connect as much as you want

I believe that for children to become independent and live by their own ideas, it was important to let them be as dependent on me as they wanted, whenever they wanted, during the time leading up to that.

For example, if there is a period where you are starving but cannot eat, you might become obsessed with food later on, right?

It is the same with children; it is better for them to feel that their parents are always there for them, so they can let go with peace of mind.

It is the same with bungee jumping, isn't it?

You can only jump because you believe the cord you are attached to will not snap.

That is why, looking back, I think it is good to be able to give children plenty of love while they are small.

✅ The moment of standing on one's own

As children gradually grow up, a time comes when they think for themselves.

In our case, they started spending more time in their own rooms.

When I remember my own adolescence and imagine how my children feel, I realize they are actually thinking about how to live their lives.

Once they start thinking about their own way of life like that, it is proof that the time for them to stand on their own is near.

After that, just like practicing riding a bicycle, you support them, occasionally let go, and watch to see if they can go on their own.

As they get used to going on their own, they will be able to make their own judgments and move forward even when you let go.

To be able to let go smoothly and honestly when the time for separation comes, it is important to have connected as much as possible when they were small.

✅ Summary

Even if children move out on their own, if they find home comfortable, they will come back on their own.

My adult daughter who lives alone also comes home quite often, so I think I must have made it a comfortable place to be.

To ensure it remains a comfortable place today, I will spend my time keeping myself in a good mood.
