The Man Who Does Two Jobs

The alarm goes off at 3:00 AM. I get up immediately and start moving quietly around the house. To avoid waking my family, I first feed the cats, then start breakfast while running the washing machine. This quiet time is the start of my day as a househusband.

"The man who does two jobs"—that is my title. One is working as a company employee, and the other is the job of a househusband taking care of my family. Both are important jobs, and I spend every day balancing them both.

Having continued this life for over 10 years, I have learned many things. Among them, I found that balancing "planning" and "flexibility" is especially important. Both househusband work and sales work often involve unexpected events. In sales, there are sudden requests from customers, and at home, there are sudden needs such as a child feeling unwell or my wife's mother needing care. At such times, I learned that the key to moving things forward successfully is not to stick to the schedule, but to respond flexibly.

Also, "not seeking perfection" was an important lesson. At first, I was desperate to do everything perfectly. In sales, I was careful not to make mistakes, and at home, I tried hard to make both housework and childcare perfect. But I realized that if that continues, my heart gets tired. So, I allowed myself not to push too hard and learned to have my family help me. By letting go of perfection, I gained peace of mind, and time with my family became enjoyable.

What made me especially happy was that my children grew up, understood their roles, and started helping. When my eldest daughter was small, she would set the table while I made dinner. Now she can even cook simple meals and fulfills her role as a member of the family. My son also feels his own responsibility by helping with the cats and cleaning. With the whole family cooperating, my burden as a househusband is gradually lightening.

Through these experiences, I realize that "flexibility" and "not seeking perfection too much" are the keys to balancing home and work.

And the smiles of the people around me and words like "I'm glad I relied on you" make all that hardship worth it. Through my work as a company employee, I am expanding my possibilities and enriching my life.
