note de Noël Letter | Day 22 'Morning'
Today, I think I'll be able to post on time.
Just that makes me feel like it's going to be a pretty good day.
Mornings are mysterious.
Things that were swirling around in my chest during the night
unravel into a 'well, that's okay' the moment I see the light streaming through the window.
It's as if the light is warming up my feelings.
'Morning' is a time to decide what comes next.
But at the same time, it might also be a time to forgive the 'me of yesterday'.
On days when I couldn't get to everything I wanted to do,
or days when I tried a little too hard,
I can say, 'Well, let's do it this way today' and start over.
It feels like mornings come with a door for starting over.
In the morning, I decide on just one very small thing,
like 'I'll listen to my daughter until she's finished talking today'
or 'I'll drink one warm cup of something before work'.
It doesn't have to be a big goal.
Just a small promise that I can tell myself 'I did it' when night comes.
Keeping such 'modest resolutions' in the morning makes the day feel softer.
Mornings with children are inevitably hectic, and
there are moments when I think, 'Nothing is organized at all...!'
But even in that busyness,
just by catching a glimpse of the light,
seeing a sleepy, rumpled smile,
or having a steaming mug,
I can think, 'Ah, it really is morning.'
Even on mornings that aren't perfect, just getting up is something to be proud of.
That's what I want to tell myself.
I'm sure you, who are reading this letter, have your own 'morning' as well.
It might be the morning after a night shift,
or a quiet morning all to yourself, waking up a little earlier than your family.
Whatever form it takes, may that morning be a light that tells you, 'Today will be okay too.'
Thank you for reading again today.
Being able to keep writing is a reward in itself for me.
✨ 45 days until Christmas.
Light one more candle today.
🎁Today's light word fortune: 'Morning'
Take just one minute to put the color of your 'morning' into words.
'Golden light,' 'through white curtains,' 'a slightly cold blue'—
When you find the color, your heart wakes up too.
Please share your light too with the hashtag #noteDeNoelLetter
