note de Noël Letter | Day 30 "Bookmark"

In a library, a bookmark is a small breath taken in the middle of a story.
A receipt, a scrap of paper, a ticket from a trip—
someone's days are sleeping between the pages.

When I find one, I feel as though I've received the warmth of a time unknown to me, and I gently close the book again.

At home, yesterday's detours and laughter suddenly come back to life from between the pages.
Even when I close my book before bed, the bookmark kindly keeps the promise of what comes next.

A bookmark is not a sign to stop.
It is a gentle promise to open it once more.

On days when things don't go well, or nights when you close your book in a hurry, it's okay as long as you've tucked in a bookmark.
Your fingertips remember "from here again," and it gives you a gentle nudge.

May a bookmark that protects the continuation of your joy
be softly tucked into your book and into your day.
May you be able to smile and say, "See you later."
