You can borrow enthusiasm, but you cannot borrow the reason to act
Have you ever received
coaching or consulting?
When you received it, your feelings of "I can do this!" or "I want to try this!" must have been high, but after it ended, you might have thought, "Wait... I don't actually want to do this..." There are times when you feel such a gap that you wonder what that was all about.
Perhaps you, too,
have had a similar experience.
This time, while looking back on
a certain scene I experienced,
I will talk about what was happening inside me at that time,
and about ways to deal with it.
I am sure this will also be
a hint for those with similar worries.
This was back when I was receiving coaching.
Since I was originally not good at social media,
I had worries about how to manage social media.
But, in order to meet customers,
I couldn't figure out what to do even when I thought about it.
I wanted to borrow ideas on what a coach would do,
so I asked.
The coach told me about their own experience.
Furthermore, they also told me about a client's case.
Since it was new information and a new way of thinking for me,
I thought, "Oh, that's nice," or "Maybe I'll try it."
But that was only for a moment...
Once the session ended,
even though it was an idea they had kindly taught me,
I found myself not actually wanting to do it.
I think it's very rude, but
I had just ended up learning the means and methods.
It is true that I thought, "That's nice."
But "Maybe I'll try it" had not
turned into "I want to do it."
This is not a story limited to coaching.
When watching YouTube, you get fired up.
When you take a seminar, you think, "Alright, I'll do it."
On the night you finish reading a book, you feel like something is going to change.
But the next day, nothing has changed.
You can borrow someone else's enthusiasm. But you cannot borrow the reason to act.
I realize that the moment 'maybe I'll try' turns into 'I want to do this' is not when something is given from the outside, but only when something moves within yourself.
In my case, it often happens slowly, like gears that have been turning in a wide circle finally meshing together during the time I spend facing myself.
Perhaps it is because I have a strong habit of absorbing all the information present in a situation, such as the expressions on others' faces and the atmosphere.
When I am thinking alone, there is no need to read the room, after all.
I view the enthusiasm received from people around me who are full of energy as simply 'one of many options'.
Then, I pose questions to myself and face them quietly and thoroughly.
By doing so, both 'this is not what I want to do' and 'I want to try this right away' start to emerge clearly.
I believe that is a form of self-coaching.
Just like me, for those who are sensitive to the atmosphere and information around them, I am creating a question-based workshop that can be done thoroughly on one's own.
At your own pace. In your own words.
While also providing a space to talk when necessary.
I am creating this with the hope that you will use it not as a place to come and borrow enthusiasm, but as an environment to find your own reason to act.
I will let you know soon!
Look forward to it.
Well then, until next time.
