Director's Diary Part 10: A Night Encounter with a Water Leak and a Little Running Around [October 25, 2024]
Good evening.
Today, I'm writing about a small trouble I happened to encounter at night.
Life in an apartment building is generally quiet, but
sometimes "something happens without warning."
This day was one of those days.
There was a trace of a puddle in the hallway
When I came back from the convenience store at night,
a corner of the hallway on my floor was wet.
It's not a place where rain would blow in, so
I thought, "This is strange," and when I looked,
water was quietly dripping from a metal fitting near the ceiling.
It was only a few drops, but
it made a small sound every time it dripped,
and I intuitively knew this was something that couldn't be left alone.
Calling the management company's night service
Remembering that I am a board member (not that I had forgotten),
I called the management company's night service for the time being.
When I explained the situation,
I was told, "A representative will call you back, so please wait a moment,"
and I received a call back a few minutes later.
"It is possible that it is a pipe in the common area, so
we will arrange for a contractor."
Even though it was late at night,
it is truly appreciated that they acted immediately.
There was nothing special I could do, so
I brought a cone and placed it on the wet spot just in case.
The contractor arrived and performed emergency repairs
The contractor arrived in about 30 minutes.
They opened the ceiling inspection hatch to look inside,
and explained, "It's deterioration of the joint."
They performed emergency repairs on the spot
to ensure the leak wouldn't get any worse.
I was just watching from the side, but
it seems my presence was required,
so I stayed there with them until it was finished.
A nearby resident came out, so I explained the situation
While they were working, a resident from a nearby room came out
and asked, "Oh, is there a water leak?"
When I briefly explained the situation,
they said, "That's tough at night. Thank you for your hard work,"
and those words really touched me.
Because it is a quiet time of night,
it is a relief to be spoken to.
After the work was finished, I just went home.
The emergency repairs were finished,
and after a brief conversation with the person in charge, I returned to my room.
I wasn't thinking about it too deeply,
but while riding the elevator,
I just felt like,
'Things like this happen too.'
It was an unexpected event,
but I am glad it didn't turn into a major problem.
