Too much consideration. Too little consideration.
Good evening.
It has been a while since my last post, but has everyone been sleeping well lately?
Well, today's theme is about "mindset."
If you get sleepy while reading, please gently turn off your smartphone screen.
The moment you get into bed, you suddenly become wide awake.
Everyone has experienced that, right?
"What should I do about that matter in tomorrow's meeting?"
"The reply to the LINE message I sent to my friend recently was late, but they aren't bothered by it, right?"
While thinking in my heart, 'Please think about this during the day!', for some reason, when night comes, I end up remembering them one by one...
I don't want to think about it, and I don't even know why I'm thinking about it, but it won't leave my head...
That kind of painful, cursed nighttime...
People around me say, "Why don't you just not think about anything?"
......If it were that easy, I would have already done it! Even I, who has a Gandhi-level mindset, would almost say that, but nighttime thoughts still bubble up on their own.
Even if you try to sleep, your brain starts up like, "Yes, we're starting the reflection meeting now."
But actually, this is a phenomenon that can be explained psychologically.
The human brain has a habit of "daring" to organize thoughts precisely when it is "quiet."
During the day, it's cluttered with sounds, light, and social interactions, so the brain is busy, but
the moment you get into bed at night and it becomes quiet, it automatically enters cleanup mode, thinking, "Oh, I can organize things now!"
In other words, it's not that you are bad; your brain is just too hardworking.
Moreover, this phenomenon is called "ruminative thinking," and
it is actually known that the higher a person's stress level, the more likely it is to occur at night.
That said, what should you do?
The answer is surprisingly simple:
It's about finding a balance between "practicing to stop being too considerate" and "practicing to be moderately considerate."
It's exhausting to be too considerate and have reflection meetings all the time.
But if you are too inconsiderate, you become indifferent to things.
So, if you find a loose landing point where you can think, "This is good enough for today" or "Well, I did a good job today," your brain will also feel at ease.
The trick is to find just one good thing about today, even if it's something very small.
For example,
・I took off my shoes and lined them up properly today
・I gave a small nod to the clerk at the convenience store
・I separated the plastic bottle from its cap before throwing it away
At this level, it is more than enough; it is wonderful.
The brain switches to a relaxed mode just by being able to think, "Oh, I did well today too."
The important thing is not to blame yourself for not being able to sleep.
Instead, try thinking something like, "The fact that I'm thinking about things means I worked hard today."
If a reflection meeting starts again in the middle of the night,
gently say to yourself in your heart, "Yeah, let's think about that tomorrow during the day."
Perhaps that kind of light remark will save you.
Thank you for your hard work today.
No matter what kind of day you had today, it was a day you worked hard.
Thank you for always reading.
Good night.
