"Old man!! No alcohol!!" — The "word magic" unleashed by my 3-year-old daughter

Introduction

Kids show such amazing sense sometimes, don't they?
My 3-year-old daughter, who has Down syndrome, is steadily expanding her "vocabulary drawer" lately.

There are words she still can't pronounce well, and others she can say surprisingly clearly for some reason.
And among them... there are some expressions that are a bit "quirky" 🤣

Today, I'd like to share with you this "record of linguistic growth" that I just can't help but laugh at.

My daughter has started learning words.
Starting with her immediate family.
• Papa ▶︎ "Papa"
• Mama ▶︎ "Ma-ma" ← Kind of intense 😂
• Grandma ▶︎ "Grandma"
• Anpanman ▶︎ "Anpanman"

And
• Dadandan ▶︎ "Dadada-da!!" ← For some reason, she gives it her all every time (with hand gestures)

…Up to here, it's pretty much as expected.
The problem starts here.
• Grandpa ▶︎ "Old man!!"

…A bit strong 😂
The end of the word is unexpectedly emphasized with a sharp tone.

Every time she shouts "Old man!!" with all her might, Grandpa's expression becomes indescribable.
(*Grandpa loves alcohol, but due to a pre-existing condition, he has been given a "prohibition order" by his doctor.)

With that background, we've recently been practicing a mysterious phrase in our house:
"Old man!! No alcohol!!"
It seems "alcohol" is quite difficult for her, so no matter how many times she tries, that part remains vague…

But she has the "No!!" part perfect.
And for some reason, she points to her eyes 👀 and strikes a pose like she's in a dance routine while she does it ꉂ🤣w‪𐤔

Where on earth did she learn that kind of flair…
Conclusion

Language development is truly different for everyone, and it's fascinating.



Not being able to say things right, picking up weird habits… but even that is endearing.

Watching my daughter dance with all her might while shouting "Old man!! No alcohol!!" today, I find myself getting a boost of "energy" from her.
I wonder if the day will come when she can say "alcohol" properly?

…Or will she just keep perfecting the "Old man!!" part? 😂
Her linguistic growth, our parent-child interactions, everything—it's all a treasure.
