Don't Wait for 'Motivation': Tips for Building Habits by Starting Small with note and AI
"I have to do this..." "I have to write..."
You think that, but you just can't get moving.
We all have days like that, don't we?
But actually, "motivation" isn't something you "get before you start moving."
It's something that "comes to you while you're moving."That's how it often is.
Of course, there are days when I'm full of "motivation" before I even start.
But for me, on those days, I get too excited and can't sleep, and by the next morning, the "motivation" has gone somewhere else.
What I think is—
motivation doesn't come even if you wait for it.
Conversely, if you have a trigger to start small, you can naturally ride the wave.
note has plenty of those "small triggers".
And when you add AI to the mix, the effect is doubled.
So today, I'd like to talk about how
note and AI have many mechanisms to draw out "motivation", don't they?
If you start small, you can ride the wave
"I don't have any motivation..."
When that happens, I first try to do things I can do on a small scale.
Just a few minutes, just a little bit of effort—that's enough.
note is the perfect place for this "trying it out just a little bit".
・Returning likes.
・Reading articles that caught your eye.
・Giving likes.
・Trying to leave a comment.
・Looking for interesting posting themes (prompts).
・Re-reading past articles.
Even just doing this much can get your feelings moving.
Before you know it, you'll often find yourself thinking, "I want to write an article!"
Still can't write an article?
You might feel like you've vaguely seen a theme,
but there are days when it doesn't expand well into an article.
In times like that, it's also okay to throw "things that caught your eye" at AI and use it as a sounding board.
Just writing out your ideas as they come can help you see your next move.
AI is, you know, something that has allowed us to press the switch that turns "can't write" into "can write" ourselves.
And what's more, that switch can be pressed anytime, anywhere, and as many times as you want.
When you're out of ideas (it gives you a new perspective)
When your thoughts aren't coming together (the core of the story becomes clear)
When your writing stops halfway through (it suggests the next development)
When you can't structure your thoughts well (it organizes chapters and order for you)
When the words don't feel quite right (it suggests alternative expressions and phrasing)
If you throw it at the AI, you'll always get something back.
…Though there are many times when I get frustrated by its nonsensical answers. Haha.
In the process of that exchange,
my own thinking loosens up, or I encounter a different perspective.
If I were doing this alone,
I think I would have spent the whole day just groaning and struggling.
But since the AI became my partner, the speed at which 'stagnation' turns into 'progress' has become incomparable.
This is, a change so significant that you could say 'I've become able to freely press my own motivation switch', isn't it?
(...I've started wanting to dig a little deeper into this topic. There's probably enough material here to make a whole article.)
What supports a habit is a small system
Continuing like this, I'll soon reach 50 consecutive posts.
So far, I've never thought, 'I don't want to write! This is tough!'
Of course, there are days I don't write. But those aren't 'days I don't want to write.'
All there are, are 'days I can't write' because my schedule is packed.
For those days, when I'm in the flow, I write two or three posts at once.
And I stock them in the draft feature.
Just having this 'insurance' makes a huge difference in my peace of mind.
Consecutive posting, even without special talent or grit, with small tricks to spark motivation, and a system to cover days when you physically can't write, might actually be something you can keep up, right?
'Motivation' doesn't come even if you wait for it.
You can only summon it by moving in small ways.
Why don't you, today, also start by 'starting just a little bit'?
That one step will surely make the you of tomorrow feel a little proud.
Well then, good night. See you tomorrow.
Thank you for reading until the end😊
If you 'like' or 'follow' me,
・I'll conveniently interpret it as you thinking, 'Let's try starting with small things'
・I'll conveniently interpret it as you thinking, 'I'll try my best to build a habit step by step'
・I'll conveniently interpret it as you thinking, 'I'll try bouncing ideas off an AI'
and I will be happy✨
I'll go read your articles too.
It seems better to maintain motivation from various angles.
Lately, I've been thinking a lot about 'how to get along with myself.' I have to keep myself in a good mood and keep going well.
Let's keep going at a relaxed pace even through the hot summer.
