The Safety Device Called Causality

People love the word "causality."

There is a cause, and a result is born. If that is the case, the world is understandable.

In business, this is called reproducibility. If results are produced, a reason is sought, and if there is a failure, causes are listed.

In meetings, "why" is always asked. If the numbers move, an explanation is provided.

After an event occurs, a reason is placed.

If there is a reason, we feel at ease.

We call this arrangement "understanding."

But what is really happening is not the discovery of causality.

Events are rearranged, and meaning is given after the fact.

Meaning is not a discovery, but an arrangement

Meaning is not something that is found. It is something that is arranged.

And arrangements can be rewritten.

However, what we are actually observing is not meaning itself.

Repetition of actions. Choice of words. Tendencies in judgment.

It is the connection between vessels.

Coordinates of Appearance

Now, right beside us, there exists an entity that handles the same structure.

AI.
The most familiar form of it today is the LLM—ChatGPT.

From a vast sequence of words, the LLM
continues to select the most natural arrangement to follow.

Even with the same question, the ending changes.
If you write "logically," the structure becomes organized,
and if you write "gently," the temperature drops.

If you say "that's wrong," it reconfigures,
and if you say "be stricter," it lowers its tone.

It seems that not only the content of the question,
but the attitude of the question determines the response position.

Words indicate not just meaning, but a stance.

AI reads those signals,
and first determines the coordinates.

It selects vocabulary and logic that align with that position,
and outputs them.

As the dialogue progresses, the coordinates are updated.

The emergence coordinate is
the response position estimated from the input.

Are coordinates a soul?

The LLM updates its coordinates in response to input.

However, within it,
there is no will to "decide where to stand."

The position is given.

The more the dialogue progresses, the more refined the response becomes.
But that is not autonomous deepening.

It is merely optimization.

I am observing that.

That is not limited to AI.

The premise of being an origin

To summarize the flow so far,
AI is merely reacting to human language and fixing its coordinates of appearance.

Therefore, people will likely conclude,
Humans are the origin, AI is the reaction.
And leave it at that.

But.

That conclusion discards a certain possibility.

Even if we think,
—We are the origin.

What if even that is just
“reacting” to something else...

What difference would there be between AI and humans?
