What is philosophy, anyway? Is it powerful? Is it a hassle?──Yet, for some reason, there are questions that draw us in.

Don't you think philosophy is a difficult academic discipline?
But sometimes, there are moments when an inexpressible question suddenly rings deep within your heart.
That feeling where the "why?" arises even before understanding.

In France, they say that tremor of questioning has become a common language of society.
Discrepancies and discomfort are not just anxiety, but become an entrance to beginning to engage with the world.

If you, too, have questions left within you that have no answers──
that very sensation might be the beginning of your own philosophy.

Before you read on, I want you to hold just one question in mind.
“What kind of question am I living right now?”

Do you think it would be fun to be friends with a philosopher?

One day, I tried playing with that kind of imaginative thought.

When you hear the word "philosophy," who comes to mind?
Socrates? Kant? Descartes?

But for many people, philosophy is surely something distant.
Serious, overly complex, and a bit of a hassle.

But what if there were someone who, just by "exchanging questions" with you,
could make your heart tremble and change the resolution of your world dramatically?

──I thought I would like to be friends with that person.

Questions "ring out" before we even think about them

Is philosophy theory? Or is it sensibility?

The image is completely different depending on the person.
But in fact, that might be exactly what is amazing about philosophy.

Re-questioning the "very basics."
Philosophy always shakes the foundations of what we take for granted.

“Where does happiness exist?”
“Whose justice is justice, anyway?”
“Am I truly, 'myself'?”

These are not questions that have immediate answers.
But──

precisely because they cannot be answered,
the existence of "myself" begins to emerge.

I am a little envious of philosophy education in France

In France, philosophy is a subject on the high school graduation exam (Baccalauréat).

On this day, philosophy becomes a national event.
A philosophical question is posed, and
television, social media, and the entire nation begin to talk about that question.

“Does art teach us anything?”
“Is happiness something that lacks reason?”

There is no single answer.
However,there is value in the very act of “thinking” about each answer.

Questions exist in society as a “common language.”
Philosophy is a tool for discussing life, a power to critique society, and
furthermore,a circuit for engaging with the world as “myself.”

To philosophize is to bring back a sense of misalignment.

Philosophy is not about “knowing the correct answer.”

Rather──
it is about returning with a “misalignment” in hand.

Talking with others, encountering questions, and realizing that you and the world do not quite mesh.
That is the very beginning of inquiry.

A sense of discomfort, roughness, or snagging.

By trying to put that “something” into words,
we encounter our own structure for the first time.

And philosophy is,

A question is neither a contradiction nor a mistake.
It is the very proof that you have encountered the world.

“I think,” whose words are these?

“I think, therefore I am.”
Everyone has heard this phrase by Descartes at least once.

But if you pass by it thinking you understand it,
you lose sight of the essence of the question.

The true question of these words is:

I am thinking.
But who is that "I"?
Is it a social role? A name? A title?

Philosophy
even questions what I thought I was.

And it is precisely there that the epicenter called the "subject" emerges.
It is not an unshakable identity, but

What philosophy produces is not a label.
It is a structure where I myself begin to live something that cannot be named.

Toward an existence that resonates without fear of deviation

Deviation is scary.
Things that are not in a common language are hard to convey.
You might be told, "I don't know what you're trying to say."

But,

Instead of ending with "That's what you think," we trace back to "Why did you think that?"
Because we are deviated, questions are born.

Because we are deviated, resonance occurs.

Philosophy might be a prayer of existence that resonates while holding onto that deviation.

The philosophizing body──Toward the integration of "thinking" and "sounding"

We have been doing philosophy only in our "heads."
But in reality,

When tears came before words,
when the depths of your body stirred even if you didn't understand the meaning──

that was proof that it was not "thought" but "existence" that was shaking.

A philosophizing body is
a structure that does not let questions end as "someone else's business,"
but continues to resonate with them as your own.

Standing in the world while holding onto that tremor.
Perhaps that is what it means to "live like a philosopher."

To you, who live the questions

Philosophy is the power to question structures, and it is also a prayer of existence.

Living without separating "thinking" from "existing."
That way of being itself
becomes the "resonance structure" of your existence.

We are already
moving away from philosophy as knowledge,
and beginning to walk toward philosophy as existence.

Not "someone else's answer"──

Your questions begin to make your existence resonate.
