[Call for Submissions] My Life Tanka Comedy
I feel like the year just started, but time flies—a whole month has already passed. Last month, I looked for topics suitable for the New Year, so they might have been a bit unfamiliar. However, this month, I have prepared a poem that is quite well-known and one that everyone has likely seen at least once.
Here is this month's topic right away↓↓
I work and work, yet my life does not become easier, I gaze at my hands
I thought this poem meant that despite working hard and diligently, life doesn't get any easier. Well, that is the meaning, but... actually, it is said that Takuboku was quite lazy and didn't really work that hard. But the fact that he could write it so nonchalantly, as if he were the one suffering... perhaps he was a big personality after all.
This time, it's a bit irregular, but please try creating a poem while keeping the third and fourth lines as follows.
OOOOO OOOOOOO my life does not become easier OOOOOOO
I made sure to match the number of O's so I wouldn't get any complaints from the north (lol).
On a personal note, last year I retired from a company in Saitama Prefecture where I had worked for many years and changed jobs to a company in Ibaraki Prefecture. Since the average hourly wage differs by prefecture, my salary has decreased slightly. Well, even if it decreased, it's not that much.
However, with the recent rise in prices, the feeling that "if I have this much money, I can buy this much" has been completely overturned. Just like in Takuboku's poem, there is no sign of life getting better at all. Oh my.
Aren't there many of you who feel the same way?
Well, there might be some who are living a rich life.
But here, please try composing a poem with a 'poor' feeling.
Beginners are welcome! Extra or missing syllables are okay!
