RIP Quincy Jones

Pure passion and humility. We lost a Titan.
I was fortunate enough to meet Quincy a few times - the first in 92 at Montreux where he came to see Galliano and was so blown away he wanted to sign them to Qwest - his opening words to me as he walked into the dressing room : I believe you’re the man behind Acid Jazz, come to my hotel tomorrow and tell me all about it!! I sure did, told him all I knew and proceeded to give him a copy of ‘straight no chaser’ magazine …. A year later he started ‘Vibe Magazine!’… my first lesson in holding my secrets back in future - Quincy was sharp!
Musically speaking there is no one who has worked all aspects of the entertainment industry like Quincy… the GOAT… from Lionel Hampton to Chaka Khan - I love the story that Berry Gordy thought he was ‘too jazzy’ to produce Stevie or Marvin… well he proved him wrong with ‘Off the Wall!’…
I last met Quincy in 2017 - I was asked to host an event launching @qwest.tv with Reza Ackbarely — he was in great form and quick to thank me again for suggesting ‘soul bossa nova’ to the @wearedreamwarriors to create the hit …’my definition’ - that was back in 1990 but he still remembered!
Musically speaking of course Quincy was relevant through his entire career - moving with the times and never losing the edge.
Such a crucial inspiration to us all - the original dot joiner. RIP
