Things I'm glad I bought: Smartphone-compatible doorbells
This year, I installed two "smartphone-compatible doorbells" at my parents' house. While they are intended to be used as intercoms for visitors, I use them as "monitoring cameras" for my parents' home.
These doorbells automatically start recording when the motion sensor detects someone passing by. The recordings can be checked on a smartphone. Also, if the button is pressed, a notification is sent to the smartphone, so it could also be used as a means of communication in an emergency.

The reason for the installation is below↓
One evening, my mother contacted me saying my father hadn't come home. I went to look for him relying on an AirTag location tag, but I couldn't find him. I felt the limitations of the AirTag.
In the end, my father had stopped by a pachinko parlor and made it home on his own. Since I couldn't contact my father, who doesn't carry a smartphone, I was left feeling helpless on the dark road until I confirmed he had returned home.
At that moment, I realized that starting the search at the time my mother noticed was too late. I also thought it would be easier to search if I knew what clothes my father was wearing when he went out.
So, I decided to install a "monitoring camera" at the entrance. At first, I thought about attaching it to the outside of the front door, but the Wi-Fi didn't reach when the door was closed, so I had no choice but to place it inside the front door (inside the house).

The reason for the installation is below↓
My father fell in front of the entrance. Luckily, the front door was open, so the first camera recorded what was happening outside. If the door had been closed, I would have remained unaware of what had happened. I realized that a camera outside the entrance was definitely necessary.
Since the Wi-Fi didn't reach outside the front door, I installed a repeater in the entrance, and it finally managed to connect.
2024 is finally coming to an end. Aiming for "at least one update per month," I finally wrote the December post on New Year's Eve. Thank you for reading until the end. Wishing everyone a happy new year.
