1999年に結成[17][注釈 1]。女性アイドルグループとしては相当に長い下積みを経て[19][10]、「ポリリズム」を切っ掛けとして2007年から2008年にかけてブレイク[出典 4]。以降も長く人気を保つ女性アイドルグループである[出典 5]。独特の音楽性やダンス、舞台演出等に特徴がある[出典 6]。

アミューズ所属。レコードレーベルはPerfume Records。公式ファンクラブは「P.T.A.」[注釈 2]。

2025年12月31日（水）をもって「コールドスリープ」と称して活動を休止する[28]。

This performance not only summed up 25 years of Perfume, but also hinted at a move towards something new. Having followed them for years since that announcement, I felt like I would burst into tears if I let my guard down, but I'm so glad I saw this performance, and it was a relief. It was a night that made me think, "This is what a live show is all about." Thank you so much.
