Differences between OpenEvidence and UpToDate | What is the actual user experience like?
The trigger was reading the article mentioned above.
I just happened to read it when it appeared on my Chrome timeline, but...
What is OpenEvidence??
OpenEvidence is a generative AI platform specialized in resolving clinical questions, jointly developed by Harvard and MIT, and it is said to have already been introduced in many facilities in the United States.
You can use it even if you are not a doctor.
However, you need to verify that you are a healthcare professional when registering.
What is the actual response like?
For example, let's ask, "Are there any NSAIDs (a type of painkiller) that can be used for a person with an eGFR of 30 mL/min/1.73m^2?"
Japanese version

English version

It returns a response with almost the same meaning.
The time required is a few seconds...
It also lists five or more references.
I also felt that I might be able to use this feature as a reference when writing papers...
On the other hand
What is UpToDate?
UpToDate is an online content service provided by Wolters Kluwer, and on its website, it is introduced as "a tool that provides evidence-based, reliable solutions tailored to modern healthcare systems." The core of the content is in text format organized by topic.
You can use it even if you are not a doctor.
Or rather, since it is contracted on a facility basis, it can be used by accessing it from the facility's network.
It is difficult to read.
As a topic regarding painkillers in patients with similar renal impairment

Like this, a page with a huge amount of text written all over it appears.
This is... I always think this, but it's hard to read.
Setting aside the difficulty of reading...
Another wonderful feature of UpToDate is that you can search for "drug interactions."
Personally, I have found this very useful.
And I am grateful that it properly rates the risks.
Of course, I read the content thoroughly to understand what kind of risks might occur and to what extent.
As I pointed out in the article above, UpToDate also warns,
“Please be sure not to try to read everything.”
That makes sense.
In actual clinical practice, there is no time to read the full text that slowly.
Also, as a point to note that is often overlooked, you will lose access if you do not periodically access it from the network of the institution that has a contract with UpToDate.
Be careful of this.
