Lily varieties are confusing! Even new species are appearing

Easter lily

The flowers are pure white.
The leaves are wide and glossy.
Blooms around April to June.
Native to Japan (Okinawa and Amami).

Formosa lily

There are purple streaks on the outside of the white petals.
The leaves are much thinner and sharper compared to the Easter lily.
Blooms around August to September, later than the Easter lily.
An invasive species native to Taiwan, often seen on roadsides and in wasteland.
The name comes from Takasago, an ancient name for Taiwan.

New Easter lily? Are there even things like that!?

A natural hybrid of the Easter lily and the Formosa lily
The flowers are pure white and easily mistaken for an Easter lily
The leaves are thin and similar to the Formosa lily, but have a softness to them
Blooms around August to September, just like the Formosa lily

Conclusion

If it's a pure white flower that blooms in early summer with wide leaves, it's an Easter lily
If it's a pure white flower that blooms in late summer with thin leaves, it's a New Easter lily

If it's a flower with purple streaks that blooms in late summer with thin leaves, it's a Formosa lily

So,
the lily that came from somewhere and settled in our home

has been identified as the Formosa lily, native to Taiwan
