👨 Is Remote Work Slacking Off? The Generational Gap War with My Father
Sorry for not understanding the meaning of remote work. Anyway, I'm an aspiring retiree.
Today is remote work day.
I was clearing my head with a morning walk and enjoying my coffee when my father woke up, rubbing his sleepy eyes. And the first thing he said was,
"What, you're not going to the office? Another day off?" in a grumpy voice.
I tried to explain,
"It's remote work, so I don't have to go to the office," but my father's reaction was cold.
"I don't really get it, but you're not going to the company, right? Then what about weeding the garden?"
……So they still exist,
people who think remote work is "not work." Yikes 😱
🛏 The North-Facing Pillow Problem Erupts
Perhaps because of the unfamiliar word "remote," my father's barrage continued.
"Your bed is facing north! Don't you know about the north-facing pillow?! That's sacrilegious!
It's been decided since long ago that north is bad!"
Well, I... do know that, of course. Whether I care is another matter...
Wait, it's sacrilegious? Huh, I didn't know that 😅
I can understand the feeling of wanting to stop your child from doing something you think is bad.
"They say sleeping facing north is good for your body because of the Earth's magnetic field. If it bothers you, you can rearrange the furniture ♡"
When I said that, there was no reply, and my father disappeared somewhere while grumbling. You stubborn old man! 😃
📡 Wi-Fi and the Relationship with Ancestors
He actually cares about north-facing pillows in this day and age.
Or maybe it's just a superstition that's still active that I didn't know about?
If that's the case, then Wi-Fi signals must be rude to our ancestors because they interfere with spirits!
You should also stop your daily routine of watching those political YouTuber videos! That's sacrilegious too!
I didn't say that, though, because it would probably end up being bullying.

🤯 Is Coercion Domination or Brainwashing?
My stereotypical father,
it's probably impossible to make his thinking more flexible now.
I don't intend to object to what he believes in,
but you can't force that on others.
If you can, I think that's domination or brainwashing.
A long time ago, my father watched a TV special on cult religions and boasted, "Only idiots get caught up in that," but he probably never dreams that he is doing the same thing right now.
After all, it's hardest for humans to see themselves objectively.
🚗 Middle-Aged Couples and My Worries
Seeing him like that, I also get anxious, thinking, "Is Mom okay? Is she planning a middle-aged divorce..."
But they go on nice drive dates together every weekend,
so maybe I don't need to worry after all.
No matter what happens, the fact that they are my parents won't change.

🏡 Tiny House Ambitions and the Reality of Funds
Because of all that, the time for the planned family meeting (tentative) evaporated.
The tiny house plan has been put on hold, and they lived happily ever... wait, no they didn't!
Not yet, it's not over yet. My ambition hasn't disappeared!
Then let's move forward with the funding talk!
I'm a retiree who always says I have no money, but actually, I do!
It's a housing purchase savings plan that I've been diligently putting 5,000 yen into every month since I was a new employee!
It seems to be a company benefit.
When I consulted with the General Affairs Department yesterday, they said, "It's common for normal people to use the accumulated funds to take out a loan and build a new house. But that way of using it is also okay 👍."
Of course, it seems you can't restart the savings once you cancel it, so I need to decide carefully.
I never intended to build a new house in the first place.
It becomes used the moment you live in it, and it includes various premiums...
So, rather than leaving the savings as they are, maybe it's okay to use them for my dream (and for remote work, while I'm at it).
However, even after Googling the market price, it doesn't seem to be enough to build a tiny house...
But it's not bad as seed money.
