Producer Recruitment Proposal: "Actor Collection (Tentative)"
Producer Recruitment Proposal
"Actor Collection (Tentative)"
— A place where actors exhibit themselves. —
<<Introduction>>
I am looking for a producer.
I, Ito, have been active in the theater world for 20 years as an actor, and as a lead (playwright/director).
During that time, I have constantly observed the structure where "actors wait" and "the lead bears the burden."
I believe this structure has flaws.
There are various reasons, including money and interpersonal relationships, but
when compared to the current global trends, it is an unreasonable structure.
It is not good for one's health.
Therefore, I want to create a "mechanism" that causes a positive WAVE.
I cannot realize this project by myself.
What I have is a philosophy.
I can write plays and direct them.
But I have absolutely no ability to launch and grow a business.
That is why I am looking for someone to think about this with me.
<<What I am thinking>>
I think that
both actors and leads
should create works from a more equal perspective.
Actors should move
from being "hired by the lead"
to participating as partners who grow the work together. In the true sense of the word.
To achieve that,
it is necessary to share not only rights but also responsibilities.
To be blunt,
"For leads and actors to create works from the same perspective, actors also need to contribute their own resources."
Of course, in return,
I also want to change the structure where only the lead bears everything.
The budget too.
The responsibility too.
The risk too.
If we can share these little by little,
actors will also be able to
"I want to work with this group."
"I'll pass on this one."
They will be in a position to make such choices.
I thought of this project as the first step toward that.
<<Project Purpose>>
Why don't we end the era where actors wait for auditions?
Theater costs are rising.
Prices are rising.
Just by putting on one performance, the lead's spirit, physical strength, and money are depleted.
Perhaps the number of performances will decrease in the future.
In that situation,
"Waiting to be called"
is a style that will make it harder for actors as their opportunities to perform decrease.
If so,
I thought we should create a place where they can go and show for themselves,
"This is the kind of theater I do."
The Paris Collection of theater.
A showcase where you are seen for the actor you are, not for the work.
In short,
Actor Collection.
<<Content>>
15 to 20 minutes per exhibitor. The method is free.
A one-person play is fine.
A two-person play is fine.
A reading is fine.
A performance is fine.
Please exhibit the 15 to 20 minutes that best express who you are.
The protagonist is not the work.
It is about the pride and future of actors.
≪Event Image≫
A matinee and a soiree in one day. (Dress rehearsal the day before.)
10 participating groups, 5 groups per session
Approximately 90 minutes per session
A networking and interview session (about 60 minutes) will be held after the performance.
≪Target Invitees≫
・Theater company leaders
・Directors
・Producers
・Film directors
・Casting personnel
・Theater personnel
I want to grow this into a project that will also interest those working on the front lines.
I want to revitalize the theater scene.
Of course, I want general audiences to see it as well, but
the protagonist of this project is
"encounters that create work"
itself.
≪What I would like the producer to do≫
・Overall project production
・Selection and branding of performers
・Selection and negotiation with invitees
・Sponsorship and sales
・Budget management
・Public relations strategy
・Design of networking and matching sessions
・Construction of a business model that can be continued in subsequent years
Of course, this does not mean you have to do everything alone.
I hope you will produce it, including gathering the necessary staff.
Contract terms (planned)
・Producer fee: 100,000 yen
*Scope of work and duration will be discussed after the producer is decided.
≪What the producer will gain from this project≫
・A network with new actors, theater leaders, and directors
・Experience in launching a new showcase
・Authority to design a business model intended for continuous operation
・Credit as the producer of this project
≪What Ito will be responsible for≫
・Construction of project philosophy
・Concept design for the entire event
・Playwriting as needed
・Directing as needed
・Creative consultation with participating actors
・Project refinement with the producer
≪Regarding performers≫
It depends on the producer's intentions, but I think it will likely be an application-based format.
It is also fine to say, "I want to push this person in!" I leave it to you.
To ensure this doesn't end after one time, how we build excitement for this showcase is crucial.
Those who are selected to participate will
be charged an exhibition fee of 20,000 yen.
This project is not a showcase where performance fees are paid, but rather
"a business aimed at creating sales opportunities"
.
Therefore, the concept is to charge an exhibition fee.
[Participant Benefits]
・Sales opportunities leading to performance offers
・Inclusion in a profile booklet (see separate section)
・Professional photography (scheduled during the dress rehearsal)
・Provision of performance video data
・Distribution of booklets to invited industry professionals
・Participation in networking events
・Feedback from post-performance casting inquiry surveys
<<Selection of Exhibitors>>
This is the core of the production.
While the structure involves charging participants an exhibition fee (see budget below),
I would like the producer to handle the selection of performers.
I expect applicants will be those with a certain level of skill and confidence.
Good actors who are currently unknown.
Actors who usually perform with a fixed theater company but are actually eager to participate in other works.
There might even be actors who make counter-offers to the invited producers.
Please make your selections while considering the balance of the exhibited works.
I leave the method up to you.
<<Rehearsals with Exhibitors>>
For the exhibition, rehearsals will be conducted by the actors themselves.
However, naturally, overall direction for the entire "Actor Collection" is necessary.
I anticipate a total of about 5 full rehearsals.
I would like the producer to take the helm for that.
If you feel that "I didn't sign up for directing!", then
I can do it, or if the producer has a favorite director, I would like you to appoint them.
I would like the producer to
indicate the direction of the entire project and consult with the director as needed.
Connections between actors will also be formed at that time, and it would be great if everyone could get along well.
<<Profile Booklet>>
We will produce a profile booklet for all participating actors.
Photos.
Performance history.
Views on theater.
SNS.
Video QR codes.
Contact information.
A collection that doesn't end just on the day of the event.
We will create something that remains as a casting resource afterward.
<<First-Year Budget Proposal (Example Calculation)>>
* Staff (excluding production) are assumed to be engaged for 2 days.
* We assume at least 5 invited industry professionals, with a target of about 10.
* Theater costs are based on the use of Ito's personal voucher for Koenji K's Studio.

General admission (30 people per show x 2,500 yen) 150,000 yen
Support tickets (5,000 yen x 10 people, including profile booklet) 50,000 yen
External funding target (raised through a combination of donations, sponsorships, and sponsors) 230,000 yen
Total: Approx. 630,000 yen
* Profit is not the objective; we aim to build a sustainable model.
* If external funding is not met, the content and scale will be adjusted.
<<Success Criteria>>
While audience numbers and social contribution are important,
the success criteria for this project is
that actors receive offers for roles.
Within three months after the event, performers receive new offers for roles.
We consider that to be the success of this project.
We will survey the number of subsequent offers to use as improvement indicators for the following years.
Every year,
"I got a job because of that Actor Collection."
I want you to help grow this into an event where such stories accumulate.
* The definition of "offer for a role" in this project is "a case where specific inquiries or discussions regarding the work, organizer, implementation period, performance conditions, etc., have begun."
This does not include exchanging business cards or future social pleasantries.
<<In Closing>>
I will provide the philosophy.
I will also write the plays if necessary.
I am looking for a producer to help grow this project together.
Please feel free to contact me.
