[DIY Miracle] A Recaro seat sitting in the Japanese-style room, a storm of criticism. Overcoming the despair of pitch differences, time to combine!

Hello! This is Re:NISSAN from Re:Tech Japan. The Recaro seat for a Lancer Evolution I brought back from Etchu is currently sitting heavily in our Japanese-style room. I had expected it, but the back of the seat has bosses welded on specifically for Mitsubishi vehicles, and although it is the same AM19 type, it seemed it could not be installed as is.

Naturally, I faced a storm of criticism from my family, like "It's in the way!" and "We're throwing it out!" Feeling the danger to my life (the seat's life), I rushed to the Japanese-style room as soon as I got home, carrying the JADE seat rail.

1. A surprising fact that made me doubt my own skills

I was in despair the other day after a simple tape measure measurement, thinking "The pitch doesn't match on either the front or back!" but I was stunned when I held the rail up to it again.

"...Wait, isn't the width a perfect match?"

It seems there was a major bug in my tape measure handling that day. Regarding the length, there are many holes on the rail side, and upon closer observation, I found that if I used a rotary tool to "elongate" one hole by about 5mm, it could be firmly secured. (We only have a mini rotary tool at home, so in reality, I used a hand drill and rotary tool bits. If you have an 8mm diameter one, that would be ideal.)

Attaching rotary tool bits to a hand drill (a task you shouldn't imitate)

The despair of a few centimeters turned into a glimmer of hope of just 5 millimeters.

2. Searching for the "correct answer" for universal rails

However, a new problem arose here. Because it is a universal rail, there are many holes, and I don't know which combination is the "correct answer" for the seat...

Is the left the correct one?

Especially since this is based on the premise of modification. Once you widen the hole, there is no going back. Chief Sakura might say, "The position where the slide lever feels most comfortable when you sit down. That is the correct answer," but with the sun setting and no time left, I couldn't decide to remove the genuine seat because I couldn't leave the car immobile by tomorrow. After trial and error, I completed the temporary assembly in the position that seemed to have the best operability.

3. The Great Nut Rescue Operation

During the work, the biggest crisis occurred. The nut for attaching the rail on the seat side came off... and went on a journey inside the seat.

"Wait, that's a labyrinth from which there is no rescue!"

I peered into the dark gaps of the seat and struggled for several tens of minutes using thin tools. My current high-directional LED light didn't help much in seeing into the depths... After searching for over ten minutes by going back and forth from the garden to the Japanese-style room to change the angle... by the time I managed to rescue the nut, it was already past 7 PM.

Because of this structure, I don't really recommend repurposing Mitsubishi Recaro seats. If you lose this square nut, it becomes quite troublesome. I have checked the driver's side for now, but is it still there on the passenger side? Did I drop it inside the TIDA during transport? Did I leave it in Toyama when I went to pick it up? The anxiety never stops.

It's true that the nut was rattling inside from the beginning.

4. Driver's seat, ready

Unfortunately, it is pitch black outside. Docking it to the vehicle body has been postponed until tomorrow or later, but I managed to complete the installation of the rail on the driver's side.

Driver's side rail installation complete

From an eyesore in the Japanese-style room to a "seat ready for battle" at last. I wonder what kind of view I will see when it is finally installed inside Abe-san (Avenir). Next time, it will finally be the In-vehicle docking edition!

(There are also places where 20mm fits)
