The Act on Support for Children with Medical Needs from the Perspective of a Child with Medical Needs. #2
Long time no see!Hika here🙋🏻♀️
The new semester has started and things have been so busy that I've fallen behind on updates🥺 I'm sorry💦
This time, I will write about the future of children with medical needs, considering the Act on Support for Children with Medical Needs✍🏻 I hope you will read it to the end☺️
Children with medical needs grow up to be adults, too.
The definition of a child with medical needs is
a child aged 0 to 18
who requires daily medical care.
Please pay attention to the age👀 up to 18 years old. It is natural to think of this as the age of high school graduation, but those children naturally grow up to be adults as well. Since I am currently 20 years old, that means I no longer fall under the category of a child with medical needs🤔
However, I am attending university and have no income.
In that case, my situation isn't much different from a child with medical needs!
That's what I sometimes think😂
The obligation to provide medical care for schooling applies to educational institutions up to high school. It does not apply to universities. So, what happens then... the rest will be in the next chapter.
Children with medical needs want to go to university, too.
I, a person who was a child with medical needs, will write about how I live at university, you know.
First, regarding the system, universities are outside the scope of the Act on Support for Children with Medical Needs, and severe disability home care (more on that another time😉) cannot be used either🙅🏻♀️... So, what do I do!?
In a word, the university pays for all of my care expenses.
During the time I am at university, a helper who has received training in medical care is always with me. It is very reassuring. I am well taken care of.
How divine. That is what I think. This is just a fortunate case.
In reality, it seems there are cases where people cannot receive sufficient support, or parents have to provide the care...😣
The Act on Support for Children with Medical Needs mandates support up to high school, but it's not like children with medical needs only go as far as high school?
When children with medical care needs work.
And, sooner or later, the time will come for children with medical care needs to work as well.
By that time, almost everyone should no longer be covered by the Act on Support for Children with Medical Care Needs.
If that happens, what will we do? Under current law, there are no services available while working🙅🏻♀️ While the ratio for hiring people with disabilities is set, the reality is different.
Companies that cannot hire people with disabilities do not need to hire them if they pay a levy🍐
If that is the case, there is no merit in going out of our way to hire us, who cost a lot of money in various ways, is there?😅
I believe that this area of the system also needs to be reviewed, I think!
Are we not allowed to do anything other than school?
Up to this point, I have covered things like school and work, which are the bare minimum essentials for living.
But, children with medical care needs are living normal lives too, so we do various other things, right?
For example, playing with friends, going to lessons, going to cram school, shopping, going to the library, having sleepovers...
When you think about it, these are natural things, right? 😆 But, under the current system, there are no services to support all of these😭
For example, if you use a service called mobility support, you can go out for a short time. However, it cannot handle long periods of time 😱 In other words, sleepovers are not possible... (Unless you invite friends to your house, haha).
Oh no... I want to join in too!!
I feel like I can hear that voice from somewhere. I felt the same way back then.
I want support for places other than school is my honest opinion.
Summary
The Act on Support for Children with Medical Care Needs is a very groundbreaking law✨ Considering how things were until now, the possibilities for children with medical care needs have expanded significantly👏🏻
Based on that, if I were to summarize the points that could be improved by doing more...
・Expand the scope of application to higher education institutions such as universities and vocational schools ・Public services that can be used
while working ・Support for private time
outside of school
These are the three points!
I hope these thoughts reach you🙏🏻✨
That's all from Hika🙋🏻♀️ See you later! 👋🏻
