I was diagnosed with "fulminant type 1 diabetes"
In the September 2025 routine thyroid checkup, I received results suggesting diabetes, and visiting a specialist was my first encounter with the condition.
I was 163 cm tall and weighed 90.6 kg...
From there, I discovered the Asuken app, and since my weight was dropping steadily and my numbers were coming down, I thought that as long as I kept losing weight, my levels would be close to normal by the checkup two months later...
Even though my weight was decreasing, my blood sugar levels wouldn't go down, so I had a CT scan, but it showed nothing abnormal!
After that, my numbers started to drop on 2/26, but two months later,
the test results were brutal: 2/26 → 4/23
・Glucose 147 → 347
・HbA1c 6.7 → 8.2
Weight 90.6 (2025.9.5) → 65.8 kg
Body fat 44.7 → 32.2%
There were times I thought, "Isn't dieting supposed to be harder than this?!" but I didn't pay much attention to it.
The doctor was surprised that my numbers were rising despite the weight loss, so I had an ultrasound. I took the test later, and there were no issues!
Since the other blood test results took time, I finally found out the cause today.
I was diagnosed with "fulminant type 1 diabetes."
Immediately after, I received instructions on how to inject insulin and had something called a Libre attached to my arm.
I had planned to eat lunch before heading home, but I felt I couldn't manage my first insulin injection while out, so I did it at home.
So this is something I'll be living with for the rest of my life.
After getting home, I spent the whole time researching diabetes, and finding information shared by people with type 1 diabetes made me feel like I have companions, which is reassuring and I'm grateful for their posts.
★Things I have to do today: first, I have to tell my husband...
Maybe he thinks I've lost too much weight, because he's asked me twice before, "You're not sick, are you?" and "Just to be sure, you're not sick, right?"
At the time, I thought I had type 2 diabetes and there was hope for improvement, so I answered, "I'm not sick."
I hadn't told him about the type 2 diabetes either... I wonder how I should bring this up...
I can't tell my child (a first-year junior high boy) yet... Maybe I'll wait until after his midterms... I wonder if I can go about my life without telling him?!
I feel like writing this down here helps me think more calmly!
I'm so glad a place like this exists!
