The results of my first overnight visit to my parents' home in over five years, with my husband for two nights and three days

I went back home for the first time in ages!

I had stopped by my parents' house for a day trip a little while ago, but that was really just a quick visit (lol), so this was my first proper trip home since the end of the year.

For the past five years or so, I had almost never stayed overnight, but I finally got around to it and went for an overnight visit.

By the way, this was the first time my husband and I stayed at my parents' house together.

With the pandemic and my younger sister returning home to give birth, it had been difficult to stay at my parents' house for very long.

When you stay overnight, you end up with a lot of luggage.

The hassle of preparing for an overnight stay was one of the reasons I had been putting off visiting home.

Why I decided to stay overnight

So, why did I decide to go for an overnight stay this time? It was triggered by a single comment from my husband.

"Since the second half of Golden Week will be tied up with our own plans, would you like to go back to your parents' house during the first half?"

I had been prioritizing my husband's family's schedule while neglecting my own parents' home, so I decided it was time to go back for a visit for once.

Also, what gave me the final push
and became a major catalyst
was, as I mentioned in this article,
the hope that I might be able to go to Starbucks! (lol)

Since I was actually able to go,
I am posting a report on it.

The result of visiting my parents' home with my husband

It went more smoothly than I thought,
there was less friction between my mother and me (lol),
and we were able to spend the time peacefully.

Above all,
I was happy that my husband enjoyed it.

When I lived at my parents' home,
it was a regular routine to go for a drive nearby
every weekend with my father driving,
and going to places like roadside stations
had become a normal thing,
but it seems my husband enjoyed those kinds of outings.

Indeed, wherever we went,
at the end of the day,
he would mutter,
Today was fun, wasn't it.

I see.
This person
is the type who enjoys these things.

Those weekend drives
were everyday life in this house, but
they aren't just normal, taken-for-granted
things, are they.

It was a two-night, three-day trip that provided fresh discoveries.

Catalysts are always close by.

It's not that I dislike it, but
don't you find that if even a little time passes,
it becomes more of a hassle?

I think a good sense of distance is important for relationships too, but
finding that balance can be difficult.

This time, the reason my visit home had been delayed
was that, due to various reasons,
I kept missing the opportunity,
it became a bother,
and I thought, 'I don't have to push myself,'
and as a result of putting it off and off,
that's what happened.

But it's not a distance that's impossible to travel.

If you get on the Shinkansen, you arrive in no time.

Catalysts aren't things you wait for.
They are things you reach out and grab yourself.

That is what I thought.

Once you visit home once,
there is nothing to be afraid of anymore✨(lol)

I will try to create opportunities to visit home again,
with the goal of seeing beautiful scenery and visiting Starbucks locations.
