Learning to enjoy change

Lately, before work,
I've been taking a short walk to Starbucks.

In the morning, I find myself wanting coffee.

Drip coffee is fine, but I've been in the mood for a Caffè Misto,
so I've been enjoying it while switching up the milk.

Usually, some milks require an extra charge,
but with a Caffè Misto,
you can change the milk at no extra cost,
which is a point I really love.

And so, just like always,
I ordered a Caffè Misto and noticed something.

That the design of the sign (sticker)
for when you change the milk had changed.

Huh? It's shaped like a raindrop now.

The previous one was cute too, wasn't it?
Was it a soy milk bottle? Or should I call it a paper carton shape?

(...I can't seem to find a photo at a time like this.)

I wonder when this sticker change happened.
Has it been like this for quite a while?
Maybe it's been a long time?

I feel like the first time I noticed the milk change sticker
was back when I was going to Starbucks
to study for my certification exams.

When I thought that it might have been the same
for about 10 years (or maybe even longer),
I realized that I hadn't even imagined
that this design would ever change.
I realized that.

When something you thought would surely never change
actually changes.

It takes a little while to get used to it, but
before I know it, the thing that changed
becomes the new normal,
and it will probably change again.

The same thing could probably be said
for things like banknote designs.

As times change,
various cultures and trends emerge,
and while some things endure,
others fade away.

Perhaps I myself
am undergoing minor changes every day.

Maybe there is nothing
that never changes at all.

While changing,
while wavering,
to live while cherishing the present moment.

When life is painful,
just breathe and be there.

Yes, as long as you are alive.

There may be times when you can only see shadows and darkness, but
you cannot say for certain that
the direction from which the light shines will never change.

Thinking that perhaps one day I might notice that the scenery I see has changed...
I sat alone on a park bench,
watching the leaves
that had fulfilled their purpose and fallen to the ground.
