German Language Proficiency Test B1 Listening
The next section is hören, which is listening.
In Part 1, the audio is played twice. For each audio clip, you answer two questions. One is a true/false question, and the other is to choose the correct sentence.
The key is to look through the questions before the audio starts playing.
In Part 2, a slightly longer audio clip is played only once, and there are five questions.
Personally, I felt this part was the most difficult.
The context for the audio is written in the question sheet. You have time to look through the questions, so it is important to grasp as much as you can beforehand and identify the keywords. Basically, the flow of the audio follows the order of the questions.
If you miss an answer, don't panic; just move on and focus on the next question.
In Part 3, you also listen to a slightly longer dialogue-style audio only once. Since these are true/false questions, pay attention to the keywords in the questions, and look out for negative expressions before or after them. Because it is a dialogue, be careful, as the other person might contradict what was just said immediately after you jump to a conclusion based on a keyword.
Part 4 is a radio interview format. Usually, there is one male and one female, an MC and a guest. You have to answer who said what. You can listen to this twice, so stay calm. While it is important to grasp the theme, you should also read the questions in advance to imagine the flow of the conversation, and at the very least, identify the turning points in the topic during the first listen.
For the listening section, you want to make sure you get the questions you can hear twice correct. Also, do not let the questions you didn't understand drag you down, and make sure to create time to thoroughly read through the questions in advance.
Since it is a long test, you will need concentration, so I think it is better to practice listening for a duration close to the actual exam as part of your test preparation.
