462. [WACK QunQun Spin-off #30] Julie's Melancholy

Hello everyone. This time is the WACK QunQun Spin-off 30th installment, and the 10th of the second part. The setting is Taipei, and it is a story of Julie's reminiscence. This is a continuation of "WACK QunQun Spin-off #29". Please see the following link for "WACK QunQun Spin-off #29".

It is hot in Taipei today, too, in May. The temperature easily exceeded 30 degrees. QunQun was enjoying sweets with Julie.

"So, anyway. At first, Beelzebub of Gluttony, this guy attacked with food, but I swatted it away."
"It's the temptation of food, then."
"Yes. And then next was Belphegor of Sloth. I was put to sleep once, but I repelled it with a barrier and defeated it."
"You were put to sleep..."
"And then, Asmodeus of Lust. This guy is a nasty piece of work; he disguised himself as my brother and tried to trick me."
"Oh, were you okay?"
"I saw through it and won! Next was Leviathan of Envy. This guy's head was a snake, and I was turned to stone by Medusa's power, but I broke free and won!"
"..."
"And just before this, Mammon of Greed. A giant, this guy was strong. But I won!"

Julie's face filled with anxiety. Julie looked down and stirred her Appletiser with a straw, clinking it against the glass.

(Why have you changed so much? Where did the usual QunQun go?)

Thinking that, Julie felt sad.

"What's wrong, Julie? Do you feel sick?"
"I'm fine. It's just... I'm sorry."

QunQun didn't pay any mind to Julie and said, looking into the distance.

"The next battle is Satan. Satan of Wrath. It's dangerous..."

QunQun could no longer bear to watch, and Julie let it slip out unintentionally.

"About what you said earlier, it kind of sounds like bragging..."
"What is that way of saying things! I'm fighting for my life here! You don't understand, so saying things like that—forget it!"

To QunQun who stood up in anger, Julie said in a panic.

"QunQun, wait a second. I was wrong. I apologize."

Julie's teary eyes made QunQun stop in her tracks. But QunQun, still unable to calm her anger, blurted out as if to vent her frustration.

"I'm doing this to save everyone. Don't interfere!"

That was when it happened. The barrier ring on QunQun's left ring finger cracked. The setting split in two, and the blue topaz shattered and fell. The broken ring slipped off QunQun's finger and rolled onto the floor.

"QunQun, this is..."
"I'm not married anyway. I feel refreshed now that the ring is off."
"But, doesn't this create the barrier..."
"It's fine. I have a shield. I don't need the ring anymore."

And then, QunQun said firmly to Julie.

"Julie, you absolutely must not come! I don't want to put you in danger."

After saying that, QunQun left the shop. Julie picked up the broken ring, feeling bewildered. She could not stop the tears from falling.

"QunQun, you..."

QunQun continues to worry about Julie, and next time, we will unravel the mystery of the barrier ring.
