Moving to the Countryside? ~Don't Do It~
The countryside is a great place (who said that?)
■ I want to live in the countryside after I retire... Here is the life those people dream of.
Rich in nature
Quiet life
Spacious house
Community connections
Low cost of living
■ The reality is!
Rich in nature... Nature is a threat! Insects and wild animals appear everywhere, so you need countermeasures. Centipedes fall from the ceiling, you know. There are geckos both outside and inside the windows. When they walk on the tatami mats, they make a rustling sound. The roads are unpaved, and when it rains, they are covered in mud! ...Furthermore, deep in the mountains, deer and bears are roaming around.
Quiet life... That's impossible! The sounds of insects, animals, and birds are noisy. You won't be able to sleep unless you get used to the chorus of frogs from the rice paddies right by your pillow.
Spacious house... The toilet is far away. It might even be outside. It's cold because the ceilings are high. Can you equip every room with an air conditioner?
Community connections... There is mandatory unpaid labor. Grass cutting, ditch cleaning, festivals, temples, neighborhood associations, senior clubs, women's associations, volunteer fire departments... You cannot become a 'member of the village' unless you take the lead and do these things with a smile.
Low cost of living... A car is essential for getting around (one per person), and there is no public transportation. Neighborhood association fees, festival assessments, temple donations, ceremonial expenses (for everyone related to the villagers)... You can't make a living. If you don't secure food from your own field, you won't be able to keep going.
■ Why does the phrase 'dreamy countryside life' spread so much?
Perhaps it's because it's nice when you visit occasionally.
Because you are a 'guest,' not a resident.
You get away from your daily routine, relieve stress, and misunderstand that it will continue every day.
I want to live in the city.
The points I admire are as follows.
Convenient infrastructure.
Trains and buses that run on time.
24-hour convenience stores.
A clutter-free life in a studio apartment.
It would be even better if it were soundproof.
A sense of distance that doesn't interfere with neighbors.
...What are the disadvantages of the city?
