[Parenting] To moms and dads tired of the infinite loop of the same picture book

Misaki Mito is here.
One of the common worries that comes up when reading picture books to your child.
Q.
My child brings me the same picture book every day and says 'read it' to me.
I'm already tired of reading it.
A.
Children love 'repetition.'
By all means, let's read it until the child is satisfied. Sometimes, one day, that phase will suddenly disappear as if it were a lie.
↑ This is a common answer, and I think so too.
However.
I want to add something!!!!!
Why do children love 'repetition'?
That is because [Wishes come true].
A story they know, a development they know...
They have it read to them, and it ends exactly as [they thought it would].
The comfort of [as expected] is
almost the same as [having a wish come true].
Parents just need to read the picture book the child brought over saying 'read this.'
Don't you think it's amazing that
just doing that means [fulfilling the child's wish]?
And, [fulfilling a child's wish]
is directly linked to [developing a child's abilities].
Children, regarding what they need right now,
actually know it very well.
Having said that.
Reading only the same picture book every single day is a bit tough.
And, I feel like just one picture book isn't enough words to deliver to the child.
That is, without a doubt, true.
So,
I recommend
a
parent and child two-part setup.
Read both the picture book the child chose + the picture book the parent chose.
If you do this, even if the child keeps choosing the same picture book forever,
the parent can read various picture books to them, right?
Of course, the child is listening intently to the book they chose, but
they aren't listening (it seems) to the book the parent chose.
...That kind of thing is within expectations.
That is fine.
It's the stance of 'Mom (Dad) wants to read this, so if you'd like, please listen.'
To use an analogy, it's like when you give someone a souvenir and say, 'I hope it's to your taste...' that kind of feeling.
Even if the person who received the souvenir doesn't like the taste, they won't think badly of the consideration of the person who gave it to them, right?
And, there are times when you think, 'I wouldn't usually buy this myself, but it was surprisingly delicious.'
It's the same when reading picture books to children;
you don't know if the child will like the picture book you read.
But, regarding the fact that the parent is reading the picture book to the child with all their heart,
the child is definitely moved,
and there are times when their interests expand precisely because the parent chose and read it to them.
With one book the child wants, and
one book the parent chooses,
while satisfying the child's heart,
you can create opportunities for them to encounter various words and various worlds.
I recommend the two-part setup.
I hold picture book workshops and picture book chat sessions.
In the workshops, I talk about:
● What are the benefits for a child's development when moms and dads read picture books to them?
● How to read and choose picture books that match a child's development
● Common concerns: What should I do about this?
and more.
