[Daily Life] The voice when reading picture books is...

Misaki Mito is here.
A letter I received the other day from my second son, who is in his final year of kindergarten.

It seems he went out of his way to write down something that would take only 3 seconds to say in words.
I am very happy about that sentiment.
The letters are flipped left and right in places and some are missing,
but I feel like that actually conveys how hard he tried.
Now, here is the main point.
What my second son said along with this letter.
"Because Mom's voice when reading picture books is beautiful."
...I was surprised.
Because, unfortunately, my voice is not particularly a "beautiful voice."
If I had to choose between high or low, it is definitely on the lower side.
I have been told it is easy to listen to, but
no one other than my second son has ever told me I have a "beautiful voice."
In the end, what a young child calls
"a beautiful voice"
is
"a voice they like."
Just like how everyone's standard for a handsome person is different,
everyone's standard for being smart is different,
and everyone's standard for being kind is different.
Everyone has a different voice they like.
So then.
Have you ever thought about it?
What kind of voice do children like?
What kind of voice do children think is beautiful?
Have you?
I know the answer to this.
Perhaps those reading this have already realized it too.
The voice of someone close to them
.
From a child's perspective, it is their mom's or dad's voice.
A mom or dad's voice has incredible power simply because it is their mom or dad's voice
.And,
[when reading picture books] is also a key point.
When [reading picture books],
you generally don't use an irritated, sharp, or edgy voice.
(Unless it's that kind of line.)
It is bound to be a calm, affectionate voicethat thinks of their child.
Even if the person reading is not aware of it themselves.
And that accumulation of
speaking to your child in that way
nurtures the child's "heart" and "language".
That is why,
I want to recommend to many people
reading picture books with a mom or dad's voice
.
I am not saying this because I received a thank-you letter for reading picture books.
Gratitude from a child is nice to have, but
even if it's not there, it is still precious in its own way.
I will talk about that next time.
I hold picture book seminars and picture book chat sessions.
In the seminars, I talk about:
● What effect does a mom or dad reading picture books to their child have on the child's growth?
● How to read and choose picture books that match a child's development
● Common worries: What should I do about this?
etc.
If you have a request, please contact me via the inquiry form below.
I also accept requests for off-site seminars for parenting circles or small mom groups.
A Maternity Reading Advisoris someone who conveys the importance of delivering
mom and dad's [voice] and [words] to the home through picture books, and walks alongside moms and dads in their parenting journey.
The significance of parenting while knowing that
[your own voice] and [words that come from you]
nurture a child's "heart," "language," and "power to live"
from the maternity period or early stages of parenting is very, very great.
And when speaking words to your child,
picture books
are very useful.
I will continue to share information that is helpful and serves as a guide for parenting, so thank you for your support.
