[To get "Sabao" flying!] April 14, 2024 #071
"I want to try flying a drone myself!"
That's how my relationship with drones began.
The name I gave the aircraft is "Sabao".
Isn't it cute?
Do you name things you are attached to?
Actually, "Sabao" was the name of the car I used to drive, a partner I traveled with for 15 years and 200,000 kilometers.
So, I named my new partner (the drone) "Sabao" with the feeling that I would cherish it just like my old "Sabao".
Today marks exactly one year since I registered that "Sabao" drone.
Time flies, doesn't it...
So, this week I took care of various renewal procedures.
First, I applied for flight permission for an unmanned aircraft through the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism's Drone Information Platform System (commonly known as DIPS).
(Period of permission, etc.: 1 year. Flight route: I have a comprehensive application for all of Japan.)
Next, drone insurance. Last year, there was the DJI complimentary liability insurance for the first year, but from this year on, I have to enroll myself.
After all, if I were to cause an accident and injure someone, I wouldn't be able to cover the damages.
It's the same as car insurance.
I am careful not to cause breakdowns or accidents, but it's a safety net just in case!
Also, before flying a drone, I have to report the flight plan to DIPS, and since I have to enter "insurance-related information" there, I can't fly without insurance.
Furthermore, depending on the location of the aerial photography, there are places where I must attach the "Unmanned Aircraft Flight Permission/Approval Certificate" and the "Drone Insurance Certificate" when applying in advance.
And finally, the renewal application for the drone Care Refresh (a compensation service that can be used in case of aircraft breakdown or loss).
It has been extended from 2 years to 3 years, so I can handle it with Care Refresh without having to join aircraft insurance for 3 years.
It's a once-a-year procedure, but I have to make sure it's done right.
With this, I can continue to fly my "Sabao" drone with peace of mind!
See you next time!
