[P.Seven Tea Perfume] "I just want to preserve the scent of tea" - The story of how Taiwanese tea perfume was born
Hello. This is P.Seven Tea Perfume.
Thank you for reading today as well.
In this article, I would like to talk about the beginning of the brand
.
"If only I could preserve the scent of tea forever."
That thought was the catalyst for the birth of P.Seven.
My time as a tea master at The Grand Hotel
The founder of P.Seven and
olfactory artist PAN
used to work as a
tea master at The Grand Hotel, a hotel representing Taiwan.
In a place that values history and prestige,
she conveyed hospitality and
Taiwanese culture through tea.
In that space,
guests from all over the world, both domestic and international,
would come to enjoy tea,
so various languages were spoken.
However, happily,
everyone would express
the same sentiment.
"This tea has a lovely scent."
For PAN, that was a source of joy, but at the same time,
it was also a little frustrating.
The Taiwanese tea culture of the "aroma cup"
In Taiwanese tea culture, there is
a vessel for smelling the aroma called the aroma cup (wenxiangbei).
It is a vessel characterized by a design
with a small opening and height to ensure the aroma does not escape.
Before drinking, you first pour the tea
into the slender cup,
and then transfer it to the drinking cup.
The lingering scent rises softly within the aroma cup,
and you bring your nose close to enjoy just the aroma slowly—
It is a time that feels like a
"prelude" to drinking the tea.
One day, when PAN
held an aroma cup of Jin Xuan tea,
she felt deeply moved.
Rising with the steam,
a faintly milky and sweet scent.
A scent that is somewhat nostalgic,
and a calming scent that makes you want to keep smelling it forever—
"I want to preserve the scent of this tea."
That thought was the starting point
for P.Seven Tea Perfume.
"Scent" only exists in that moment
As a tea master,
PAN has brewed countless cups of Taiwanese tea.
But the scent is only there for the moment.
No matter how wonderful the tea is,
the scent in the aroma cup is very fleeting.
Guests cannot take it home with them.
It ends as a scent that only exists in that moment—
"I want to preserve the scent of tea more."
"Couldn't I deliver the scent of Taiwanese tea not just as a memory,
but as a 'tangible object'?"
The answer she came up with was
perfume.
A new challenge called perfume
PAN had no experience in making perfume.
Even so, at first, she collected fragrances from all over the world by herself,
and began research and prototyping.
At the time, it seems she was working so passionately
that she was even dipping into her own savings.
How can I capture the scent of the Jin Xuan tea from the aroma cup and lock it inside a bottle?
The days spent struggling with fragrances lasted for two years.
It is said that there were over 2,000 prototypes.
And finally, the first P.Seven tea perfume was completed.
And finally, the first P.Seven tea perfume was completed,
the first work,"Taiwan Tea Perfume".
The initial motivation that remains unchanged even now
Even now, the starting point of P.Seven's perfume making has never changed.
The air of the land where the tea leaves grow,
the warmth of the hands that grew them,
the moment of brewing the tea, and
the time spent around the tea—
with the desire to capture all of that background
into the scent,
we create our fragrances.
The tea scent of P.Seven tea perfume
fully utilizes the unique perspective and experience of a former tea master
.
Conclusion
How was it?
I would be very happy if I could convey even a little bit
about the special worldview of P.Seven tea perfume's tea scent.
Next time, I plan to delve deeper and introduce the olfactory artist PAN.
I hope you will look forward to the next installment!
Thank you for reading until the end today as well.
