Chapter 6: Principles of Teamwork
Question: "How can individual results and team results be balanced?"
What you will gain in this chapter:
✅ Tips for balancing individual performance with a sense of team unity
✅ Perspectives to re-examine your own role
"I'm not good at working in a team."
"Cooperating disrupts my own pace."
"It's faster to do it alone."
I often hear such voices.
However, in the business field, individual play alone has its limits.
At some point, you will need to use the power of a "team."
So, can "individual results" and "team results" really be balanced?
🔍 Why is "teamwork" difficult?
Teamwork is difficult because you have to accept the differences between "your way of doing things" and "others' ways of doing things."
People unconsciously believe that "their way is correct."
That is why they get frustrated with others' methods or feel they are "inefficient."
But to achieve results as a team,
👉 a perspective that separates "your correct answer" from "the team's correct answer"is necessary.
Principle: Separate the axes of "yourself" and the "team"
To demonstrate teamwork:
✅ An axis to protect "individual results"
✅ An axis to support "team results"
It is important to consciously separate these two.
Specifically:
✔️ Determine the "minimum line" for your own results
✔️ Know the "common goal" of the team
✔️ Find the "parts where you can contribute"
If these three are in place, you can contribute to team results while protecting your individual results.
Practical Advice
✅ Determine your "minimum line"
→ Create a standard to decide "I will take responsibility up to this point"
✅ Check the 'team's common goal' every week
→ Make it a habit to confirm with the leader or colleagues whether the goal has drifted.
✅ Consult with AI on 'contribution points where I can leverage my strengths'
→ Try asking ChatGPT, 'How can I contribute to the team by leveraging my strengths (XX)?'
🔔 In the following section, I will share AI practice examples for 're-examining teamwork'.
👀 From here on:
✅ Practice of actually posing the 'end-of-chapter questions' to AI
✅ AI response examples
✅ Insights and next questions based on those answers
will be shared.
👉 Why not experience 'reading for thinking' together with AI?
End-of-chapter questions
1️⃣ What does 'achieving results as a team' look like to you?
2️⃣ In what situations did you feel you were able to 'contribute'?
3️⃣ Conversely, what was missing in 'teams that didn't work out'?
👉 Let's pose these questions to AI and re-examine your 'role in the team'.
AI Experiment: Posing end-of-chapter questions to ChatGPT
✅ Question 1: What does 'achieving results as a team' look like to you?
AI response:
'It is a state where all team members feel that they are needed, each fulfills their role, and they are able to cooperate toward a goal.'
→ Insight from this answer:
I realized that creating an environment where people feel 'needed' leads to team results.
👉 Next, I will be conscious of the role of encouraging others by saying 'Let's do this together'.
✅ Question 2: In what situations did you feel you were able to 'contribute'?
AI response:
'A sense of having contributed is born when your specialized knowledge or skills are useful in solving team problems.'
→ Insight from this answer:
The moments I felt I could 'contribute' were when I directly leveraged my strengths.
👉 Let's be conscious of 'my strengths' on a daily basis and intentionally create a 'role' within the team.
✅ Question 3: Conversely, what was missing in 'teams that didn't work out'?
AI response:
'The causes are a lack of awareness of common goals, unclear roles, and a lack of mutual understanding or trust.'
→ Insight from this answer:
In projects that failed, the 'purpose' was ambiguous.
Who was responsible for what remained vague until the end.
👉 Next, let's start by verbalizing and sharing the 'goal' and 'roles' at the beginning.
[Summary of AI Experiment]
By posing questions to the AI:
✅ “a perspective to view team challenges objectively”
✅ “how to leverage my own strengths”
have become clear.
Teamwork does not begin with “erasing yourself,” but with “leveraging yourself.”
In this “reading while thinking with AI,” I learned the importance of “being conscious of your own role” in Chapter 6.
👉 What does “achieving results as a team” mean to you?
Please try asking the AI as well.
👉 Next time, we will move on to “Chapter 7: Principles of Customer Orientation” and continue our AI experiments.
