How to Extend Zoom Breakout Sessions [Tips for Online Communication from a Pro]
When using breakout sessions in Zoom, have you ever felt that you needed a little more time, even though you set a timer to match the meeting or workshop duration?
In face-to-face training, it was easy to observe the participants and say, "I'm extending this by three minutes." How can you extend the time in Zoom?
Actually, the method is simple.
To extend the time, check the "Notify me when the time is up" box when setting up the breakout rooms.

When the time set on the timer naturally runs out, you will receive a notification like the one below. At that point, by clicking "Keep breakout rooms open," you can extend the time without ending the breakout session.

If you do not need to extend the time, click "Close now."
If you do extend the time, it is a good idea to use the broadcast feature to share that the time has been extended.

After that, if you want to close the breakout sessions, you can do so by clicking "Close All Rooms" from the "Breakout Rooms" menu.

I conduct more than 10 breakout sessions during a one-day training. Checking "Notify me when the time is up" every single time adds extra work for me as the host.
I recommend using this feature for the first workshop after starting the training, or for workshops you are facilitating for the first time where you cannot predict the time required.
