How have you been since the end of Golden Week?

Golden Week is over

I'm pote, and I took the holidays exactly as they appeared on the calendar this year.
My husband, who went back to work a day earlier, reminded me.
He said, "You're back to work today too, you know."
It's the kind of thing that, if I weren't told, I might just stay home in a daze,
because the holiday mode really sinks into your body.
I took the full four-day break in the second half, after all.

We finished breakfast and started getting ready for work, talking about how
"Today is a day with a 6 in it, so the supermarket will probably be super crowded."

On days with a 6 in them every month, people over a certain age
get discounts at several supermarkets.
They are called "Turtle Days" or "Happy Days."
Our elders, who buy an incredible amount of stuff,
shop very, very slowly.
Some even come with young couples and are pros at lining up two carts side-by-side.
That's four baskets total.
If you accidentally go on such a "6 Day," you get caught in the massive crowd
and lose your own pace.
You forget what you need, and things you don't need end up in your basket.
Unconsciously, before you know it.
I get home, feel stunned, and end up even more tired. I want to avoid that.

While thinking about the work I left behind,
I head to the office while mentally layering the day's
bank-run route and the locations of the supermarkets.
(Usually, I shop while running bank errands and take my lunch break at home.)

Realizing the mistake

I looked at the daily tear-off calendar at the office and thought,
"Wait, it's the 7th..."
That's when I finally realized.
That was close, that was close.
I seriously went to work thinking it was the 6th.

Going to the bank

As soon as the long holiday ended,
the roads became noticeably empty.
It's a common sight in tourist areas.
At the entrance to the bank parking lot,
there was a security guard working the GW period shift.
I went to the bank prepared for it to be crowded, but
I had no trouble parking.
There were so few cars that I felt sorry for the guard standing in the pouring rain.
If I were him, I'd be in a situation where I'd want to call it a day and say, "I want to go home now."
I might even just go home. Should I go home?
But even if I was the only car that came by,
and even if there were no pedestrians, the guard was working as usual.
He pointed to the entrance with his traffic wand and said, "Go ahead~~."
Thank you, sir. I'll do my job properly this afternoon too.

Since I can manage dinner with what's in the fridge,
I decided not to stop by the supermarket.
I have to consume the ingredients I ended up buying too much of during the holidays.
When you go as a couple, you know, you end up buying alcohol and snacks, right?

Returning home

It's impossible to catch up on all the work
on the first day back after the holidays, right?
Good grief.
My husband, who got home first,
was in the kitchen.
"Welcome back. Was the supermarket crowded after all?"

Being tested

He is definitely talking under the premise that "pote went to the supermarket on a 6 Day."
Even though I know today is the 7th,
it's become a "6 Day" where the supermarket is super crowded.
