The Reality of FIRE (Almost Unemployed) [What is a 'Heso-Quo'?!]
Introduction
The main goal of stock investment is, of course, asset building, but for those of us who are FIRE (almost unemployed), there is another pleasure. It is the "spice of life" known as shareholder perks. Roughly categorized, the types of perks are:
1. Perk vouchers (meal tickets, accommodation vouchers, discount coupons, etc.)
2. Catalog gifts
3. Digital gifts (PayPay, Amazon gift cards, etc.)
4. Quo cards
Something like that.
Today, I'm talking about
4. Quo cards among those. They are the "magic paper cards" that quietly support the life of a FIRE (almost unemployed) person.
Quo Card Harvest Status
・Total amount of Quo cards received since December 9th last year: 25,000 yen
・Total amount of Quo cards received up to March 2nd this year: 11,000 yen
・Total: 36,000 yen
※ Why since December 9th last year?
→ Because I haven't kept records before that. FIRE (almost unemployed) people prioritize freedom over records (it makes no sense).
How I use them
I used to cash them out regularly, but one day I suddenly realized, "I can use these at Matsumoto Kiyoshi." From then on, they disappeared as they transformed into "commoner protein sources" that are the lifeline of my life, such as eggs, milk, bread, natto, and tofu.
Furthermore, the number of times I go to bookstores has exploded since I became FIRE (almost unemployed). I started buying books in bulk (I didn't say I read them). As a result, a phenomenon is occurring where the Quo cards I had in stock are melting away at a faster pace than I can harvest them.
Consumption Priority
There is a "rank" even for Quo cards. In my mind, here is the hierarchy (in ascending order).
・Small amount with company name
・Large amount with company name
・Standard small amount
・Standard large amount
・Heso-Quo (the last line of defense)
※ Since those with company names have a lower appraisal value when cashed out, it is rational for FIRE folks to use them first.
What is a Heso-Quo?
I just tried taking inventory of the Quo cards I have on hand.
1. With company name: 10,000 + 5,000 x 2 (consumption is progressing quite a bit!)
2. Standard: 10,000 x 3 + 5,000 x 2 + 3,000 x 3
3. Heso-Quo (anime characters): 1,000 x 2
4. Heso-Quo (celebrity photos): 500 x 16 (of which 9 are Matsuken)
Yes, Heso-Quo means "the Quo card version of secret savings." I just can't bring myself to use the ones with characters or celebrities. It feels like a waste, and I can't put them in my wallet.
There are especially many of Ken Matsudaira. For some reason, there are 9 Matsukens in my house.
I want someone to study the phenomenon of Matsuken multiplying in the homes of FIRE (almost unemployed) people.
In closing
