🔶PLAS Graduation Essay | Aya Kanno🔶
"I want to work for people who are in life-threatening, difficult environments."
When I consulted a senior at my university about this, they told me about PLAS. I started my internship at PLAS in December 2023. Seven months have passed in the blink of an eye.
Hello everyone, nice to meet you! I'm Aya Kanno, a PLAS intern. For the past seven months, I have participated in PLAS as a professional intern on the Public Relations & Communications and Overseas Operations teams. It has been a truly fleeting seven months. Since I was interning while maintaining my full-time job, I could only participate for about 1-2 hours on weekdays, but I am sincerely grateful to PLAS for accepting me despite those constraints.
About my assigned duties
On the Public Relations & Communications team, I was in charge of things like writing note posts and promoting events, and on the Overseas Operations team, I was responsible for finding local organizations in Africa and analyzing the results of PLAS projects. In every task I was allowed to experience, PLAS consistently respected my autonomy. They accepted every request I made, such as "I want to try this" or "I want to do it this way," and I cannot thank them enough, haha.
Now that I am graduating from such a comfortable organization as PLAS, looking back on these seven months, I realize that my time as a PLAS intern has become an important chapter in my life. I caught a glimpse of the current situation in Africa. It has become clearer to me what kind of social contribution activities I want to engage in going forward. Above all, through PLAS's activities, I met someone who will serve as a guiding light in my life.
To those considering a PLAS internship
If you have a feeling that you want to challenge yourself with some kind of social contribution activity, or if you feel lost or unfulfilled in life, I highly recommend that you experience a PLAS internship. The staff and the fellow interns are all wonderful people! You will be welcomed as a member of the team and blessed with the opportunity to freely experience a variety of things.
I hope that you, as well as my fellow PLAS colleagues, will continue to have many encounters and positive experiences!
