Shiritori with Place Names Across Japan! / PlaceChain Rule Explanation
What is PlaceChain??
To put it simply, it is
a grand game of Shiritori using all of Japan.
It is a journey to visit famous spots all over the country while playing Shiritori with addresses.
Use a roulette to determine a municipality name that starts with the last character of your current address (e.g., if the address is Nihonbashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo, the character is 'shi'). The poster will research and decide on a famous spot in that municipality, which will become the destination. Once you arrive at the destination, look up its exact address and use its last character to continue the Shiritori.
Omit parts like 'cho' (town) or 'x-chome' that follow the municipality name.
If the last character has a dakuten or handakuten: include the unvoiced version as a candidate as well. (For 'ba' or 'pa', include 'ha' in the Shiritori.)
If your current location is '1-chome, Sakuragicho, Naka-ku, Yokohama-shi, Kanagawa-ken': you must continue the Shiritori starting with 'gi' or 'ki' from 'Sakuragicho'.
If the last character is 'n': return to the previous location and play Shiritori from there again. Even if you know before going to a place you have visited before that you will have to return because of an 'n', you must make the pointless round trip.
Start at Nihonbashi in Tokyo, the starting point of the Five Routes.
Similar to the program this is based on, the goal is reached once place names from all three prefectures—Aichi, Gifu, and Mie—have appeared. Also, if you visit the same municipality again in a prefecture you have already cleared, the goal is revoked.
Travel: In principle, use public transportation other than airplanes (with some exceptions). In places where there is no or very little public transportation, travel by car (taxi, rental car, hitchhiking) is assumed.
This project is based on
CBC Television's 'Chimei Shiritori (2001-04)'
and 'Chimei Shiritori: Tabibito Nagatsu no Chosen (2022-25)', which were broadcast in the Chukyo region and elsewhere.
