I wonder if there's ever been a day this unlucky
Today, it's been pouring since the afternoon, and it's the second day of my period.
That double whammy alone would be bad enough, but
this morning, a person-on-track accident meant the railroad crossing didn't open for an hour, making me late.
Fortunately, my coworkers already knew about it,
so their reaction to my call about being late was just, "Yeah, we figured!" which I was grateful for.
This was my first time ever being late.
My home and workplace are two minutes apart. Even though it's so close, it was a frustrating hour where the crossing right in front of me just wouldn't open.
(To be precise, it was 30 minutes on the way to dropping off my child at kindergarten, and another 30 minutes after turning back... but whatever, that doesn't matter.)
Next was a mistake I made while running a stationery errand for work.
It was entirely my own fault.
Trying to make up for being late,
I chose to go during a time that was barely possible,
and rushing to buy it in the five minutes before my lunch break was a mistake.
Furthermore, because I opened the item I bought by mistake
roughly and messily instead of opening it carefully,
it was non-returnable by the time I realized my error.
When I apologized over and over again on top of being late,
everyone just laughed.
If they had said something like, "We're deducting this from your paycheck," I might have thought they were jerks,
but when people are kind to you, it makes you want to ask them to please deduct it from your pay.
But they are such a kind company that they wouldn't deduct it even if I asked.
Sigh... just when I thought I'd switch gears and do my best in the afternoon,
it started pouring rain just as predicted. See? Today is just one of those days.
But it didn't end there.
I'm sorry for talking about a girl-specific issue,
but on the second day of my period, I got my uniform skirt dirty.
And the chair, too.
No matter how many times it happens, it's a moment where I just want to disappear.
At a company I worked at in the past,
a man teased me by saying, "Whoa, you had an accident," and it's quite a trauma for me.
It's not like I wanted this to happen.
Even if I try to rotate the skirt to the side and pretend, "This isn't blood,"
the pocket ends up right in the middle,
and since the back is designed with elastic gathering, there's no way to rotate it.
Wishing for time to pass quickly,
I walk with a strange gait to hide the skirt,
covering it with documents and my bag as I walk.
All that's left is picking up the kids.
If they don't shout, "Mom, you have blood on you!" then today will end safely.
Then, a different problem arose.
My daughter brought home a plastic tray she was given to put bugs in,
(first of all, I don't need that! It's trash!),
and a friend was trying to put a snail in it, and my daughter says she wants to take the snail home.
I can't help but think that if her friend hadn't caught it, this wouldn't have happened.
But at this point, I don't really care about that level of stuff anymore. I just want to go home and take off this skirt.
After having three snails put in for us,
when it was time to get in the car, my daughter said, "Actually, I'm scared."
No!! You should have said that before we put them in!
Even though no one can touch them,
there are three snails in the tray.
I tried placing them on the asphalt, but
the snails just moved sluggishly.
They seemed wary and were shrinking back.
Come out already!!! I'm trying to leave you here!
I couldn't just leave the trash I'd been given behind,
and I couldn't touch the snails with my hands either,
so I waited in the pouring rain for the snails to naturally crawl out of the tray.
My frustration reached its peak.
I yelled things like, "Can't you just grab them with your fingers and let them go?!" to my son,
and "What do you mean you can't touch them when you were the one who said you wanted to take them home?!" to my daughter,
my daughter cried and retreated into the car,
I watched the snails with my son,
and for some reason, I brought home the tray, which had become even more like trash with slimy snail trails, and
that brings us to now.
You might all be thinking this too, but
apparently snails are full of germs, so please don't touch them. I've already stopped caring about that sort of thing (though my son poked them, so we took a bath as soon as we got home just in case). What a report.
Other than the fact that I felt like writing on note for the first time in a while,
is there anything good about today?
You did your best. Myself.
Good work.
Good work to you all as well.
If anyone thinks they can beat me in the Unlucky GP,
please, let's compete.
