The End, Vietnamese-style Wedding🇻🇳
We arrived at the venue with the relatives. In a place like this?
A wedding hall had been set up in the middle of a rice field!
Typical Vietnam. And I suppose it's unique to Quang Binh.
Since it was a temporary structure, the temperature was well over 35°C with only electric fans... A scorching wedding!
By the way, I was in a seat where the fan didn't reach, so VAN's mom was fanning me with a hand fan.
#TooMuchHospitality
It was so hot that I had another beer.
Since it was beer with ice, I figured I was staying hydrated.
#WishfulThinking
The reception was wonderfully grand, welcoming about 1,000 guests, even more than yesterday.
In front of 1,000 people, I briefly wondered, "Could it be 'Lion Heart'?" but since it was a live band, it seemed okay.
Maybe because it's in the middle of a rice field? The sound was way too loud...
#SoundTooLoudGettingHardOfHearing
Between the beer and drinking too much water, I needed the restroom, so I looked outside the temporary venue, but there wasn't one...
There was something that looked like a privacy screen, so I thought, "This must be it," and relieved myself, but toilets are important, aren't they? I think there's a business opportunity here, so I'd like to introduce this to any CEO who wants to contribute to Vietnam's toilet culture.
#Let'sContributeToSocietyThroughToilets
While all this was happening, I was taken by VAN's mom and left the reception by motorbike.
I got ready to leave at the hotel and headed to Dong Hoi Airport.
Visiting an airport for the first time is always exciting.
VAN's mom was also returning to Ho Chi Minh City from Dong Hoi Airport. She said, "We'll go together by taxi, so wait at the hotel." I waited at the hotel while doing some computer work, feeling a strange sense of unease. Just when I thought I was finally heading to Dong Hoi Airport with VAN's mom, she showed me her smartphone translation screen saying, "We're going to the beach." Huh? Then she handed me some swim-trunk-like pants and a polo shirt, telling me to wear them...
So that was the source of my unease!
I couldn't refuse, so the taxi headed for the beach. We arrived at the beach at 16:00.
The flight was at 18:15...
The probability of missing the flight was quite high...
She said, "It's only a 6-minute taxi ride from the beach to the airport, so it's fine."
VAN's mom seemed to be in a good mood facing the beach and was taking it easy, so I used gestures to urge her, "Let's get into the sea quickly."
I quickly changed into the swim trunks she had prepared and headed for the sea.
#DidSheUnderstand?
Anyway, I had to finish swimming or I'd miss my flight.
The sea in Dong Hoi had strong waves and wind, and I was lucky that long-distance swimming was prohibited, so I splashed around in the water right in front of me. The sea in Dong Hoi isn't salty. Why? If anyone knows why, please explain.
I spent some time in the sea, but I was worried about the flight, so I couldn't fully enjoy the swim, but I was able to experience my first Vietnamese sea swim.
#WantToTakeItSlowNextTime
The time I got out of the sea was 17:15. I was already in the danger zone.
Now it was a race against time. My shoes were full of sand, I was commando under my pants, and I was desperate to get a taxi!
The time I finally got into the taxi was 17:40.
"This is a lost cause," I thought, and had no choice but to pray for my own bad luck, but VAN's mom had a relaxed expression, and her smartphone screen displayed, "Totally fine. We'll make it."
The taxi driver said, "I'll get you there in time," and drove through incredibly narrow roads like a "Circuit Wolf" racer, heading for Dong Hoi Airport.
We arrived at the airport at 17:55.
I rushed to the check-in counter and handed over my passport, and they greeted me with a smile, saying, "Totally OK."
Anyway, I made it in time, so I said goodbye to VAN's mom and passed through immigration. When I went to the restroom to put on my underwear and tidy up, I ran into VAN's mom again (lol).
When she asked, "Where were you?" and I replied, "I was putting on my underwear," VAN's mom burst out laughing.
It was quite nerve-wracking at the end, but I've been taken care of by VAN's mom the whole time, and I have nothing but gratitude. Thank you so much for everything. Linh's family and relatives also warmly welcomed me into their circle, and I've taken the liberty of considering myself a member of the family.
I look forward to a long relationship with you all.
I have a feeling we will definitely meet again.
"Take care of my daughter! Leave it to me!" I exchanged hugs with VAN's mom and am now being swayed on the bus from the runway to the plane.
At Linh's wedding, I was reminded of the various bonds between people, of that town, and of that family.
These were two days where I reaffirmed the strength and kindness of Vietnam.
I really do love Vietnam (lol).
