Children and Money: 'Let's Teach Children to Get People to Say Thank You!'
When a child receives something from someone, there is a phrase that parents always say to their child.
'Did you say thank you!?'
When you receive something or have something done for you, express your gratitude to the other person.
I believe this is one of the most important aspects of discipline for a child as a parent.
At this point, I suddenly thought of something.
Why is it that,
'let's teach children to get people to say thank you'
we rarely hear about teaching this?
Certainly, I myself have no memory of being taught such a thing by my own parents.
Even with my own children,
'You must not do things that others dislike'
I did teach them that, but
'Let's do things that make people say thank you'
I don't think I really taught them that at all.
One of the important elements in children's financial education is the system of rewards for helping out.
The key to this method is,
'Help out, be useful to someone, make someone happy, and receive money as compensation for that.'
That is what it means.
In other words, this means 'do things that make people say thank you to you'😊
Since teaching children to 'say thank you' is considered a standard part of upbringing in daily life, I believe that a heart of gratitude toward others is being cultivated on average in every household.
However, if a life where you are the protagonist is truly valuable, then I think 'getting others to say thank you' is also a quite important lesson.
So, how can we encourage children to help out so that they can 'get others to say thank you'?
In psychology, there is a term called 'self-fulfilling prophecy'.
It is a phenomenon where, if you act while thinking 'this might happen,' it actually turns out that way.
Even if there is no basis for it, while you are convinced of it, it can really end up happening, right?😁
When a child helps you out,
for example, when they could only do 1 out of 10,
'Why could you only do 1!😠'
instead of that,
'You did 1! You worked hard! Thank you🥰'
let's say that to them.
The child will,
I was able to help out!
I was able to help out, and I got a thank you!
They will believe this.
Repeating this strengthens that belief, and it means they will truly be able to help out properly.
Even if they are far from perfect, as long as you don't break the belief that they can do it, they will slowly get closer to perfection.
The important thing is not to let them develop a negative belief that 'I can't do it'.
Since this is also a belief, they will truly end up becoming someone who can't do things 😨
Please, by all means, instill in your child the self-fulfilling prophecy that they are 'someone who receives thank yous' (^^♪
