If there were a table of contents for a money manual...๐ค
Most tools that we humans use come with an instruction manual.
Recently, some items just come with a QR code saying 'please check online,' but I think it's normal for tools that are difficult to use to have a proper instruction manual.
However...
Even though so many people use it every day,
for some reason, the tool called money has no instruction manual.
Why is that?
Setting that discussion aside๐
Putting aside the fine details, if there were a 'money manual' for adults, what kind of items would be written in the 'table of contents'?๐ค
I gave it some thought myself.
1. How to use it
Things like consumption and waste, smart ways to use money, and tips for doing so. I think this is the part of the tool called money that we rely on the most.
2. How to manage it
How to keep a household account book for money coming in and going out, or what kind of mindset allows you to save money. I think these are things you should know not just for now, but for your future self.
3. How to earn it
Money won't come to you if you just sit there. I believe we should learn what it means to earn money, including the fact that there are wrong ways to obtain it. Personally, I think this 'how to earn' is something that should be learned correctly from childhood.
4. How to increase it
This includes savings and asset management methods. It is the function of money that most people are interested in, and it is often said that you should "let your money work for you."
When you go to a bookstore, there are many books on how to increase your money. However, that is just one item in the user manual for money, isn't it? ๐
5. How to prepare
As a product, insurance is probably the easiest to understand.
However, it is by no means the only one. For example, savings are also a means of preparation.
You could call it "how to protect," but it is about how to prepare money for the "what ifs" that might happen in the future.
If there were a "user manual for money" for adults, I think these would be the five items.
After all, the way we interact with the tool called money is incredibly broad! ๐
And not everything can be neatly classified into these five items.
For example, "inheritance."
It would likely involve both "how to manage" and "how to prepare."
For example, "taxes."
I think it is one of the "how to use" categories, but by learning "how to manage," you might be able to save on taxes wisely.
Looking at these five items like this, don't you feel that something is very unbalanced?
The only thing everyone tries hard to learn on their own is (4) "how to increase."
On the other hand, (1) "how to use" is something people don't learn at all, and it is strongly influenced by their own experience and their parents.
The number of people learning (2) "how to manage" has increased, but whether they can do it properly depends on their personality. It seems to involve not just skills, but also one's mindset.
Although many people have insurance as the main product for (5) "how to prepare," there are many voices saying they don't really understand it.
And finally, (3) 'How to earn'.
If you don't know 'how to earn' when you become an adult, wouldn't it be meaningless no matter how much you learned about (1), (2), (4), and (5)?
You won't be able to receive pocket money or New Year's gifts like you did when you were a child.
The government also seems to be focusing on financial education and asset management education to improve the financial literacy of its citizens, but
it is not being communicated that, in the first place, you cannot increase your money without having money to begin with.
I believe 'how to earn' is a 'money matter' that we should all think about a little more seriously.
