On Yokohama Nihon-odori Street stands the Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall, and its symbol is
Jack's Tower, one of the Three Towers of Yokohama. This image was taken looking up from the Minato Odori side.
The Yokohama Port Opening Memorial Hall is a commemorative building constructed with donations from Yokohama citizens to mark the 50th anniversary of the opening of the port. It was completed on June 30, 1917 (Taisho 6), and opened on July 1 of the following year as the Port Opening Memorial Yokohama Hall. This building serves as a public hall for Yokohama City and is counted as one of the two great public hall architectures of the Taisho era, alongside the Osaka Nakanoshima Public Hall, which was completed the following year in 1918.
