かつて「殺人狂時代」の中にこんな台詞を残しました。
戦争や紛争、これは全てビジネス。
1人の殺害は犯罪者を生み、100万の殺害は英雄を生む。
数が（殺人を）神聖化する。
今は違います。
「英雄」ではありません。
「王」です。
これまでも戦争はありました。
今年だけ特に多いという主張はしません。
ただ戦争を身近に感じます。
ふと考えてしまいます。
もしチャップリンが今生きているならどんな映画を創るでしょう？

From "A Hero" to "A King": Looking at the World Through Chaplin’s Eyes
I love Charlie Chaplin.
Three months ago, I posted the article about the battle between
"The Great Dictator," played by the King of Comedy,
and the real-life dictator, Adolf Hitler.
In his movie Monsieur Verdoux, he left us with these powerful words:
Wars, conflict—it's all business.
One murder makes a villain, millions a hero.
Numbers sanctify.
But times have changed.
It is no longer "a hero."
It is "a king."
Wars have always existed throughout history.
I am not claiming that they are especially frequent this year.
However, war feels much closer to us now.
Every now and then, a thought crosses my mind.
If Chaplin were with us today, what kind of film would he create?
