Wife of a Doctor at a University Hospital in Tokyo (Main Hospital) (2)
Every year, December 28th is the day we put away the gas and scalpels.
In reality, far from putting them away, emergency surgeries occur one after another.
This is because community hospitals are closed.
Furthermore, metropolitan hospitals have adopted a stance of not accepting emergencies due to work-style reforms.
While my husband himself is used to working until morning without sleep day after day,
as a family, the time we spend together is cut short,
and there are times when the children and I can tolerate it, and times when we cannot.

Today, there was an emergency surgery due to a sudden change in an inpatient's condition.
Since my husband is a supervising physician, he is in a position where he must respond
even when it is impossible for a specialist to do so.

I told the children, "We were able to spend Christmas together as a family, so let's be patient," and they understood.
I suppose it will be like this every year...
Honestly, I feel that the tradition of putting away the gas and scalpels is unnecessary.
