[Kyoto] The ultimate cool to forget the heat. A healing trip to cleanse your soul with shrine visits and riverside cafes
Hello, this is Oyuki! The other day, I spent a wonderful day in early summer Kyoto where I could refresh both my mind and body. This time, I will share with you the power spot shrines I visited and my experience at a cool, refreshing riverside cafe, along with plenty of photos.
A power spot for matchmaking nestled deep in Arashiyama
"Nonomiya Shrine"
The first place I visited was Nonomiya Shrine, which stands quietly at the end of the bamboo forest path in Arashiyama. The approach surrounded by bamboo feels like an entrance to another world. It was a quiet and mystical space that made me forget the hustle and bustle of the city.
I passed through the rare torii gate known as the Kuroki Torii and entered the shrine grounds, where a beautiful carpet of moss awaited. This place is famous as a shrine for matchmaking, and it was bustling with many visitors wishing for good relationships. I also prayed with all my heart🙏
The sunlight filtering through the bamboo forest was very pleasant, and every time I took a deep breath, I felt as if my heart was being cleansed.

Where the gods of performing arts gather
"Kurumazaki Shrine"
Boost your luck with money and performing arts!
Next, I headed to Kurumazaki Shrine, known as the shrine for the performing arts. It is famous for being visited by many entertainers and celebrities, and the shrine grounds are lined with vermilion tamagaki (votive fences) that have been dedicated. The sight is truly breathtaking!
It was also fun to find the names of famous people engraved on each tamagaki. I also prayed earnestly for an increase in my financial and performing arts luck💰 I hope for good connections!
The vivid vermilion tamagaki stood out against the blue sky, making it a picturesque spot no matter where you looked.

Home to the god of water
"Kifune Shrine"
A mystical experience at
And now, one of the highlights of this trip, Kifune Shrine, which enshrines the god of water. As you climb the approach where the fresh green leaves are dazzling, you will see stone steps lined with vermilion lanterns. This scenery is truly one of Kyoto's most spectacular views✨
Speaking of Kifune Shrine, it has to be the water fortune slip! When you float the fortune you received at the shrine office on the sacred water, the characters slowly emerge. The time spent waiting with excitement to see what would appear was also a fun experience🔮 My fortune result is... a secret (lol).
The sound of the flowing water is pleasant, and the shrine grounds, wrapped in pure air, are truly a power spot. I felt as if both my mind and body had been purified.

Cool and refreshing
"Hyoe Cafe"
The ultimate riverside experience at
After recharging my energy to my heart's content by visiting shrines, I had my long-awaited riverside cafe experience at Hyoe Cafe along the Kifune River!
Spending time on the tatami mats extending over the river with the murmuring of the water as background music is truly an extraordinary luxury. The cool air that made me forget the heat of the city felt absolutely wonderful🍃
I had beautiful Japanese sweets and a cold matcha latte. Sweets enjoyed while looking at the clear stream are exceptional! I was able to relax to my heart's content and spend a blissful moment🍵

Summary
Early summer in Kyoto has beautiful fresh greenery and many spots where you can feel the cool breeze. It was the best trip, cleansing my heart by visiting power spots and being healed at a riverside cafe.
