Why did we clear the mountain of clutter? How a nostalgic Wii got our family moving

Since the difficult situation continues, I wondered if it was appropriate to post an article, but I decided to share our usual daily life in the hope that it might provide a moment of relief for someone. I sincerely pray for everyone's safety.
Even when I think about playing with my children at home on a day off, there is a mountain of cardboard boxes and clutter in the corner of the room that I don't even know how long has been there.

In our house, too, due to our daily busyness, a mountain of clutter had completely built up in the living room and other rooms 😿
However, an event on one day off gave our family the determination to clear that mountain.
1. Idol songs playing from the TV and a mysterious physical reaction
On a day off afternoon, my wife, Mother Cat, and the children were watching a music show in the living room. What was playing was a heavy rotation of idol songs.
I was suddenly struck by a strange sensation. Wait, I know this song.
That's not all. The moment I heard the intro, for some reason, my body felt like it was going to move on its own.
I shouldn't have had much interest in the glamorous world of AKB or idols. Even so, why does my body remember the choreography?
2. My wife's bombshell statement and the memories of our newlywed days coming back to life
Seeing me tilting my head, Mother Cat laughed and said,
"We danced to this song together, didn't we?"
Huh? I froze involuntarily.
Of course, I can't dance 🙀
She must be mistaking me for someone elseI was panicking, but my wife continued.
"Hehe, it was a Wii game. We played Just Dance Wii together, remember?"
Ah, I remembered.
When we were newlyweds, we bought a Wii together.
Mother Cat, who now works in pharmacy administration, is actually a music college graduate.
She was a serious music student, and conversely, someone who didn't play games at all.
So that even such a wife could enjoy it with me, we played music games and rhythm games together.
It's a game where you hold a controller and dance by imitating the screen.

3. The decisive difference in play style between my wife, a former music college student, and me, an IT engineer
The memories of that time came back vividly.
Mother Cat was good at dance games, but what she was especially strong at was Taiko no Tatsujin.
Perhaps it's my nature as an IT engineer, but I tried to get by using a combination of visual timing—eye-tracking—and a certain sense of rhythm to hit the markers as they flowed across the screen.
However, my wife was different. She is a former music student... and a former piano teacher.
She barely looked at the screen, kept perfect rhythm, and hit the notes accurately with a cool expression.
...It's unfair 😹
That feeling of frustration from back then has come back to me now.
We should play it again. When I said that, our eldest cat, who was watching a music show, jumped at the idea.
"Oh, I want to play too. Can you dance to this?"
Our eldest cat jumped at it with a child's excitement.
4. Overcoming the mountain of boxes to create new family memories
If we all danced together as a family, it would definitely be fun. I was convinced.
However, the wall of reality stood in my way.
The Wii software, and the soundproof mats essential for our apartment, are at the very bottom of the mountain of boxes piled up in the corner of the living room 😹
But now, I had a clear goal.
Before the kids grow up, I want to play games while laughing together as a family, just like we did back then.
That afternoon, our whole family tackled the mountain of boxes together.

I never thought my body would move on its own to the intro of Heavy Rotation. Memories stored in the body are a scary thing.
Back then, I couldn't compete with my wife's sense of rhythm at all, but now that I have presbyopia, I should at least be able to win at eye-tracking 😸
This time, I want to include the kids and have a blast with everyone. But I can't let anyone see my and Mother Cat's Heavy Rotation 😸
