#20 Drawing Pictures. Curiosity for the Scary Part 3
My 8-year-old son with uneven development.
For him, as the language barrier is high, drawing pictures has become one of his tools for expression.
Every day, he diligently fills sheets of A4 copy paper with his drawings.
This time, it is the third installment of curiosity for the scary.
I will invite you into the world of horror.
※Since there are some viewer discretion advised horror drawings, if you are not good with horror, please check out my other milder articles.
Curiosity for the scary series
It is a bit of a troubling feeling, so to speak.
We are in the middle of a phase where I am just waiting for the boom to pass, but...
My son is currently into horror images.
He goes out of his way to use voice search to say
Son: "Horror Minion"
and searches for it.
The smartphone does exactly as he says.
Grotesque Minions fill the screen.
Looking at that,
Son: "It's gross.
Horror Minions are scary."
He watches them while being scared.
Ah...
So his curiosity for the scary has turned into
horror-processed Minions...
Ugh.
I really don't want this to become a habit, I think to myself.
Such parental concern. Ignored by the child.
This is exactly that situation.
Son: "Mom, Mom, look!
Horror Minions are scary, aren't they?"
He shows me the smartphone screen from about 15cm away from my eyes.
Um... that is too close.
He seems to struggle with gauging the right distance for other people to look at things.
And, of all things, he persistently seeks empathy from me for the horror stuff I hate.
Me: "It's scary. I'm not good at looking at these,
so Mom won't look."
Here, I clearly convey that it is not my preference.
Interactions like this have been continuing several times a day for about two weeks.
I hope it passes without a trace soon, just like the 'Gian Boom*1' did.
Because that is the situation,
the pictures he draws are, of course, horror Minions.
Horror Minions.
I am hesitant to post them, but as a record of his growth, I will post just a few in black and white.
Since they are drawings by a child,
I don't think they are that grotesque, but
if you don't want to see them, please scroll past.

My apologies.
Son: "Horror Minions are scary, so I can't go to the bathroom. Mom, come with me."
"Horror Minions are scary, so I can't take a bath. Mom, stay with me."
See? I told you so.
Even though I've told him many times to stop because it will scare him, his curiosity for scary things wins out, which is a troublesome situation.
So, I'm trying to distract him from the Horror Minions by
asking lots of questions about his other drawings,
and telling him how wonderful they are.
Perhaps thanks to that, the amount of drawings he's been doing for the past few days has shifted in ranking to
[Birds > Horror Minions > Donkey Kong]
The ranking has started to change.

Alright. Good. Go! Just fade out like that!
I'm feeling a sense of frustration, like watching the trajectory of a batted ball
wondering if it's fair or foul.
Well then.
