Just Lightly
The time I have left
to be involved with this temple,
is probably about 20 years.
The history of this temple is about 700 years.
When I think about that time,
it is like just a single moment.
That is why I want to
quietly, lightly,
pass the baton to the next.
I don't need to leave anything behind.
I don't need to accomplish anything grand.
I want to live today,
and with the feeling of it,
gently pass it on.
Not with intensity,
not with grit,
and not with a sense of mission.
Just,
honest to my own senses,
while finding conviction,
while finding joy,
and sometimes, while feeling annoyed.
In that way,
I will live, humanly.
700 years from now,
someone I don't know
might suddenly relax their shoulders.
Somehow,
they might feel just a little bit lighter.
It would be wonderful if this could be such a place.
Walking like a rhinoceros.
Not for someone else's expectations,
not for correctness,
and not for evaluation.
I will,
with my own life,
walk on my own two feet.
