What the Low-Lying Placenta That Was Called 'Impossible' Taught Me
<Review of the previous episode> When my body screamed from running continuously, I was blessed with my third child. I decided to make this maternity leave a 'time to think about my life'.
(Episode 5 is here )
My third pregnancy, and 'low-lying placenta'
My third pregnancy.
At first, I was anxious, wondering, 'Will I have a threatened premature birth again like I did with my second?'
That turned out to be fine.
But something else happened. A low-lying placenta.
The placenta was positioned low, and I needed a cesarean section at a general hospital.
Based on my experience with two births, I had decided that my next birth would absolutely be painless.
I was trying to transfer from a 'hospital that only offers painless delivery during weekday daytime hours' to a 'hospital that provides 24-hour painless delivery support,' when that examination diagnosed me with a low-lying placenta.
In an instant, I was swallowed by anxiety.
'It won't move up from here'
I searched desperately.
'Low-lying placenta risks', 'How to fix a low-lying placenta'
'Cesarean section'
But I was already at 34 weeks.
Every obstetrician told me, 'It's probably impossible for the placenta to move up from here now.'
Even so, I couldn't give up, so I went around consulting with practitioners of chiropractic and Eastern medicine to see if anything could be done.
Most of them turned me away.
In the midst of that, there was just one chiropractic clinic that accepted me.
Until the day of my hospitalization, I never gave up and kept going there for treatments.
A crisis brought an encounter
There, I met a truly wonderful chiropractor.
From that person, I learned about a birthing method called HypnoBirthing, painless delivery, and nutrition.
*HypnoBirthing is a birthing method also known for being adopted by Catherine, Princess of Wales.
Using the power of breathing, visualization, and deep relaxation, it softens the belief that 'childbirth = painful and scary,' allowing for a supremely pleasant birth by surrendering to the power that the baby and your own body naturally possess.
Finding out I had a low-lying placenta.
And meeting that chiropractor.
As a result, it became a unique opportunity to think deeply about my own body, childbirth, and the baby in my womb.
While going for treatments and doing self-maintenance to get my body in shape, I believed that the low-lying placenta would improve.
And for the sake of the baby, I gave up on painless delivery and learned HypnoBirthing.
I also paid close attention to my nutrition.
At 36 weeks, I shed tears in the examination room
Even so, the surgery date was set for 36 weeks.
During the pre-admission examination, the low-lying placenta had actually improved.
A natural delivery had become possible.
I shed tears.
The body holds so much potential
At this time, I also learned that painless delivery places a very heavy burden on the baby.
There is no doubt that it lightens the burden on the mother's body.
But after hearing that, I stopped the painless delivery.
I was able to stop because I knew the option of HypnoBirthing.
Even though this was my third child, there were still so many things I didn't know about childbirth.
And the potential of the human body is truly amazing.
And then, a sprout appeared
Mothers during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period often carry various anxieties and many need help.
In the midst of the crisis, supported by so many people and having learned so much, I suddenly thought.
Perhaps this experience of mine could one day become a light for someone else.
The things I struggled with, fought through, and desperately grasped onto.
They might be able to illuminate someone else who is lost in the same way.
Being able to think that way
was a tiny, tiny light that flickered in my heart during this time that had come to a standstill.
