My Mother's Ring and My Departure.
I'm Chika.
While I was cleaning out my parents' house, I found my mother's jewelry box.
Inside, there was one small ring.
A thin platinum band with a single small diamond.
She told me it was the first ring she ever bought for herself when she was in her twenties.
"This ring was what supported me until I got married."
My mother said that with a smile.
Looking at that ring, I realized something.
Jewelry isn't just something you receive from someone else.
By gifting it to yourself,
you find the courage to cherish who you are.
When I started my company in Taiwan, I gifted myself a necklace.
Just like my mother's ring, it had a single small diamond.
And now, as I head to Tokyo,
I'm thinking about what I should gift myself.
Is there a piece of jewelry
that you have gifted to yourself?
